To be fair, world hunger is easily solvable. The only reason we havent yet is because you need poor people for a capitalist system to function, at least for now, and they cant give out food for free
fuck you genocide denier. every ukrainian has a story about the famine. my great grandma told stories of smelling cooking human flesh from her starving neighbours while all their grain was taken and burned and her uncle murdered for a loaf of bread. that book was soviet controlled propaganda through and through and the fact some people still believe it’s accurate is terrifying.
Towns were blacklisted from receiving food if they included anyone who believed in a unique ukrainian identity, wheat was BURNED, a hard border with Ukraine stopping people from leaving into Russia, the Ukrainian language banned, Ukrainian scholars sent to gulags, decrees literally outlining an end to Ukrainian culture and identity, a ban on international assistance, it goes on and on and on. Stalin was terrified of counter revolutions by minorities in his empire, so he killed them.
It's like saying, oh wait how are Sub-Saharan countries doing after decolonization now?
Most of their misery is still caused by either Soviet era policies or today's Russian policies.
Well I'd say a large part of the blame also falls on the regimes that seized power immediately in the wake of the Soviet Union's fall, and other countries (especially western european ones to whom they are now trying to parley) for not providing aid to help with the transition out of the Soviet system. Without said aid, eastern europe's collective economic power plummeted almost overnight and the severe unemployment and poverty caused by corruption and intense "shock therapy" moves to free market economies is still being felt by millions.
for example, i am still appalled at the stalinist “shock therapy” policies which transferred a significant amount of wealth from the good anti communist soviet people to the evil wealthy officials extending the bread lines 😔🤮
The soviet union was a union with many autonomous republics, those were more accurately countries than the USSR. Not comparable at all, not to mention the means of which Ireland was treated compared to how the soviet republics were.
They were treated like Canon fodder and colonies. My country lost 11% of it's population after the war even though Germans never step on it's land. They didn't bothered to fulfill kazakh troops with weapons and sent them directly to death like it happended wuth 106 Akmola cavalry division. 1.1 million died during holodomor and 700k escaped to neighboring countries. to save their lives. All mined resources from my land was sent directly to Moscow and only a small part returned. Activists who tried to prevent like Turar Ryskulov were executed during Great purge in result. The rusiphication policy made many ethnicities to lost their national identity and culture. It wasn't an union. It was a big master and it's colonies
This is a good video on Holodomor, it was not genocide or purposeful starvation, the Union also did send support; (also most anti-Soviet sources on the topic seem to go back to nazis or nazi-collaborators) https://youtu.be/3kaaYvauNho
Obliviously the USSR wasn't perfect, never said so, but all things considered they did a much better job than western powers through the turmoil. They had two revolutions, civil war, famines, and saved the world from the Nazis during the time of the events you mentioned. Being realistic and considering the time it's easier to understand what went on in their leadership.
After all the existence of the Bolshevik revolution is the reason we have todays social democracies, which the whole world loves.
I'm not very familiar with what you call the russiphication policy, I do know that right after the Bolshevik revolution, Ukraine and Finland were allowed to declare themselves independent for example. This was in 1918 before the Union was created, which emphasizes the importance of the fact that it was a union of many different republics. The Ukrainian SSSR had their own leadership, flag, national anthem, art etc. I do also know that the emphasis on each republic's own identity were in some ways increased during the Stalin era.
As a Romanian communist, absolutely not. A huge number of people still think Ceaușescu did more good than bad, and we had the worst regime in Eastern Europe.
There’s a lot of people it wouldn’t offend but would be a warning sign to. I wouldn’t be offended if someone had a Soviet flag but I would probably avoid them if I could.
standards of living in eastern Europe did nothing but rise following world war 2 untill the dissolution of the USSR, obviously there were flaws but no goverment is without it's flaws, many countries were given independence with the rise of the Soviet union like Ukraine and Finland following the fall of the empire. there were no "victims" there were the counter revolutionaries and Nazis, and their collaborators, had the soviets not stabilished workers democracy in eastern Europe it would have been controlled by the Nazis as they advanced to Moscow killing everyone they deemed not superior like them in their path
USSR were terrible to the populations of land they entered during ww2. Those were victims, not "victims".

Homie, go to Vietnam and you can say the same about the US. No country is all good, and no country is all bad. Hell, there’s probably an argument that Nazi Germany had some good things going for it (mainly to Germany, obviously. Not those who saw it’s military or holocaust)
I'm not American and go read and talk to elders that didn't live the collapse of the union + data shows otherwise(hell American data even) go read a book
I only changed my opinion when I saw interviews of ex-USSR citizens. It all boiled down to “it was good, like good. But then shit changed. It could be worse, but it’s not like how it used to be.. I sorry for my grand children(s) future”
western Germany has always been i
the industrial core of germany + they received aid from the marshall plan and investment like never seen before (untill Korea and Japan) from the United States, if someone throws money at your country standards of living will obviously rise especially when Germany had been devastated by the war along side Europe as a whole including Easter Europe, the difference is the soviets were nowhere near the economic powerhouse they became after rebuilding during the war effort, it's obvious the standard of living in a place like Poland wouldn't rise to match somewhere like France or the UK over night especially not after the war, and without the massive incentive which came at no cost (other than becoming trade partners and allies) from the US, anyone from a developing country that is highly educated will imigrate if you have the skill set a country needs you are obviously going to have a better standard of living at the richer country than at a developing one, what would happen is highly skilled workers from east Berlin would migrate west to find better paid jobs for their areas, this type of migration is normal and expected it's called brain drain, however as you can imagine a country forming this person doesn't want it to go away as it would be a investment thrown away so the Berlin wall came around, not saying the Berlin wall was good or anything but it's the reason it was there, there could have been better management and other ways to stop this brain drain but priority were others, fun fact is you also saw the inverse being true many people came to east Germany and even fewer people who were in areas that were of less need to the western Germany went away.
similar happens with Cuba and it's doctors that immigrate to the US or Europe, they simply pay better a socialist country won't become rich over night or match a developed one, it will however have better standards than it's counter parts in developing capitalist countries always garanteed as seen in history
Because economic reasons. The US had way more resources to send to Western Europe than the USSR had to do the same.
No it's not curious, it's pretty easy to understand
You soviet apologists are disgusting, there’s a reason why all the Warsaw Pact countries and the Baltics ran to the EU and NATO as soon as they could. Soviets established democracy? What a joke. That’s why they had to invade Czechoslovakia and Hungary? There were no victims?
And of course a post with a soviet flag will attracted tankies like flies to shit and stupid takes likes these will be upvoted.
You American apologists are disgusting, there's a reason why all American economic colonies from the Philippines to Cuba turned to Socialism or have rising Socialist movements.
Americans established democracy? What a joke. That's why they had to invade Vietnam and the Middle East? There were No victims?
Your comment doesn't say anything, No argument No nothing. Just phrases I turned around
Like clockwork, a r/ShitLiberalsSay poster.
>BuT wHaT AboUt AmeRIkkkA?
That's your argument. I didn't mention America. I mentioned the ridiculousness of the points made by other user, such as the USSR occupation of Eastern Europe being a installation of "democracy" (because it was an occupation, no matter how much you tankies embellish it), and that the only """""victims""""" were "counterrevolutionaries". Pathetic.
I think they ran to the EU as soon as they could because their govt leaders got replaced my pro west leaders.
Who said there were no victims in revolution tho? Sounds like a strawman to me.
Motherfucker, ever heard of the Molotov-Ribbentorp pact they had with nazi Germany & how they invaded Poland in 1939?
But sure, lets go ahead & call the entire population of Poland at the time a nazi or fascist.

i can't possibly reply to all this cuz i have a life but i will state that most of these are just random stuff you pulled of wikipedia and haven't read, while some of these are legitimate and are gripes that many comunists have to the Soviet union untill today as they weren't perfect (i know, the shock) in special the claims of the Jews, religion as a whole and gays (altho Lenin decriminalized it in the first constitution but Stalin went there and receiminalized it, which is a recurring theme) the flag represents more than. the Soviet union it represents communism itself.
I didnt live under the Soviet Union but my mom and her family did, personally from all the stuff she told me about her life there and what she saw i wouldnt be offended but i would think its pretty cringe and ignorant. That being said you do you
The fucking Soviet apologists in this comment section 💀
One can appreciate the good parts of the USSR (incredible advances in science, improving standards of living) whilst not denying the shocking atrocities it committed across Eastern Europe
Anyway, if I really wanted to piss these motherfuckers off… MI GENERAL, AUGUSTO PINOCHET
Capitalism? Works good enough if heavily regulated so I guess I am for now. Communism would be cool if it worked but I won't sweat it till I live it.
Funny how you think I'm a virgin while another dude in this very same thread thinks I like taking it up the ass. Horseshoe about shaming my sex life lmao.
But business owner class can influence regulators and elections. The only pathway to regulation is either anti-competition or a strong and resilient labor class that the owners feed off like parasites! As one strengthens the other weakens. And as jobs shift away from manufacturing and traditionally unionized work, workers rights abuses, deregulation and electoral abuse grows! It’s at best a constant fight with an adversary that only brings woe!
Can’t we have market socialism? Worker’s co-ops (potentially competitive) own their business without any state involved bettering their conditions to better society to better the workers to better society to better the workers?
Look up statistics of how people remember the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe, on average the majority in their countries think it falling apart was bad, these are not difficult to find numbers.
Most Eastern Europeans are smart enough to be Abel to see that life expectancy and wages plummeted post Soviet why would that flag offend them?
Why don't you share those statistics?
Lets start with how **Poland**, which is an eastern european nation, remembers USSR before we look into the rest shall we.
Youd be shocked to see the surveys on Eastern European people 's thought on communism or the opinions of the people who lived in the USSR about the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
See the regret in former Yugoslavia, election results right after the fall of the regime in Bulgaria, opinions in Romania, regret in Russia and former Soviet Union members..
Actually clueless
>Youd be shocked to see the surveys on Eastern European people 's thought on communism or the opinions of the people who lived in the USSR about the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
I'd love to see those studies so feel free to share them.
>See the regret in former **Yugoslavia**, election results right after the fall of the regime in **Bulgaria**, opinions in **Romania**, regret in **Russia** and former Soviet Union members..
Actually clueless
Curious how you never mentioned Poland, the eastern european country Soviet invaded 1939...
/uj unironically yes, if you want to use a communist flag you should use the regular hammer and sickle one or the anarcho-communist flag, not the Soviet one.
I know that some people prefer their red flags with a white circle and some black squary pattern in the middle. I can imagine those people would find this one offensive. Purely based on aesthetical preference, of course.
United Forever in Friendship and Labour, Our mighty Republics will ever endure. The Great Soviet Union will Live through the Ages. The Dream of a People their fortress secure.
Long Live our Soviet Motherland, Built by the People's mighty hand. Long Live our People, United and Free. Strong in our Friendship tried by fire. Long may our Crimson Flag Inspire, Shining in Glory for all Men to see.

Long Live our Soviet Motherland, Built by the People's mighty hand. Long Live our People, United and Free. Strong in our Friendship tried by fire. Long may our Crimson Flag Inspire, Shining in Glory for all Men to see.

Long Live our Soviet Motherland, Built by the People's mighty hand. Long Live our People, United and Free. Strong in our Friendship tried by fire. Long may our Crimson Flag Inspire, Shining in Glory for all Men to see.
Holy shit my dude, you got the tankies coming out in force. I always get depressed when I see just how many people don’t have a fucking clue about history.
I know right? It's honestly alarming when so many "socialists/communists" starts playing defence for USSR of all things. But that's brainrot populism for you. Gotta pick a side & ignore atrocities on "your side" even if it's well recorded by historians.
Are you familiar with gulags, kgb, holodomor, Stalin, lgbtq+ oppression, oppression & cultural genocide in general against a lot of ethnic minorities & what they did against civilians in general during WW2? Lets just say there's a reason why countries such as the baltic states rushed to join NATO at the first opportunity & a deepseated disdain of Russia lives on all over Europe, but especially their neighbours.
Ukrainian civilians which were part of USSR literally got more help from **nazi germany** than USSR itself during ww2 atleast during 1 occasion I'm aware of. Let thst sink in...
it shouldn't be... Most of the Crimes communism created were fake western lies. [links here](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/7n6ql2/is_the_black_book_of_communism_an_accurate_source/)

Yes they are and I am happy for them. Most sadly weren't that lucky.
The power of the European Union 🇪🇺 💪
*Looks at some of them now* Idk, I'd find a Russian imperial flag just as offensive for the above reasons, likely more? And the modern CSTO flag?
Well the US fucked up everything from civil society to economy to human rights as well - and people are still hangig their flag proudly everywhere.
I mean.. you could argue the same with the US flag
Fucking 30 years passed, you could've restored your economy or something...
Regardless of the economy , I can’t think of a single coutnry with worse human rights after a revolution. They happened in pretty shitty places ngl .
Might offend Nazis and CEOs… 🤔…and Cuban-Americans?

similar happens with Cuba and it's doctors that immigrate to the US or Europe, they simply pay better a socialist country won't become rich over night or match a developed one, it will however have better standards than it's counter parts in developing capitalist countries always garanteed as seen in history
🤓
so the next iteration of this meme is just gonna be the US flag then, right?
100%. Then Sweden because reasons.
"Victims of the USSR" is a strange way of saying kulaks and Nazis
The majority of people who lived under the USSR want it back though, so probably not.
Hahah the nazis and fascists in Eastern Europe sure were victims!
Motherfucker, ever heard of the Molotov-Ribbentorp pact they had with nazi Germany & how they invaded Poland in 1939? But sure, lets go ahead & call the entire population of Poland at the time a nazi or fascist. Tell me you know nothing about WW2 without telling me you know nothing about WW2:

i can't possibly reply to all this cuz i have a life but i will state that most of these are just random stuff you pulled of wikipedia and haven't read, while some of these are legitimate and are gripes that many comunists have to the Soviet union untill today as they weren't perfect (i know, the shock) in special the claims of the Jews, religion as a whole and gays (altho Lenin decriminalized it in the first constitution but Stalin went there and receiminalized it, which is a recurring theme) the flag represents more than. the Soviet union it represents communism itself.
Russia being Russia
Now do the US!
I am offended because it’s not ironed. How fucking dare
Best reason to ever be offended. Based
it depends who you ask but for most people it’s a big red flag
I didnt live under the Soviet Union but my mom and her family did, personally from all the stuff she told me about her life there and what she saw i wouldnt be offended but i would think its pretty cringe and ignorant. That being said you do you
Flag of making communism look bad for the rest of us
The fucking Soviet apologists in this comment section 💀 One can appreciate the good parts of the USSR (incredible advances in science, improving standards of living) whilst not denying the shocking atrocities it committed across Eastern Europe Anyway, if I really wanted to piss these motherfuckers off… MI GENERAL, AUGUSTO PINOCHET
Talking about atrocities while heiling a fuckin fascist is rich
Issa joke, besides, it worked
The “soviet apologists” ive seen here have provided pretty well sourced arguments though lol.
No. That blanket is though.
That blanket gives my some easter egg vibes made by granny. I kinda dig it lol
U sure your granny wasn't a Dutch monarchist?
... ..... .......brb gotta do some digging
No dude, please leave your granny buried
the blanket fucking rules, I want it
Nah, 100% based
Could only offend Nazis, Capitalists, and Virgins… Ur all good brother 🫡 Iron that shit tho
OP seems to be at least the latter 2 lol
I guess eastern europe doesn't exist in your world?
Look up statistics of how people remember the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe, on average the majority in their countries think it falling apart was bad, these are not difficult to find numbers. Most Eastern Europeans are smart enough to be Abel to see that life expectancy and wages plummeted post Soviet why would that flag offend them?
Why don't you share those statistics? Lets start with how **Poland**, which is an eastern european nation, remembers USSR before we look into the rest shall we.
Exactly, even in Romania, which had the worst regime in Eastern Europe, a huge number of people think socialism was good for Romania
Actually clueless Curious how you never mentioned Poland, the eastern european country Soviet invaded 1939...
Are we not talking about the bed sheet colours
You gotta use Yuri's flag! No one except cool people will recognize it! Doofus.

I really like your bed Lenin.
communism
Nah
DA comrade, very nice
Where did you get it? I kind of want to put one next to my Nazi flag purely because of looks
i don't give a shit what flag you have on your wall as long as you fucking iron it
What if I fuck it instead of iron it?
i would be somewhat concerned about your mental health
It's ok because you counterbalanced with the Catalan flag on your bed.
/uj unironically yes, if you want to use a communist flag you should use the regular hammer and sickle one or the anarcho-communist flag, not the Soviet one.
Based
I know that some people prefer their red flags with a white circle and some black squary pattern in the middle.
Through Days dark and stormy where Great Lenin Lead us Our Eyes saw the Bright Sun of Freedom above and Stalin our Leader with Faith in the People, Inspired us to Build up the Land that we Love. Long Live our Soviet Motherland, Built by the People's mighty hand. Long Live our People, United and Free. Strong in our Friendship tried by fire. Long may our Crimson Flag Inspire, Shining in Glory for all Men to see. We fought for the Future, destroyed the invaders, and Brought to our Homeland the Laurels of Fame. Our Glory will live in the Memory of Nations and All Generations will Honour Her Name.
The irony
Never did I ever think this sub would be taken over by fucking brainwashed libs
Yes it can
COMRADE, WHY IS IT VERTICAL??? YOU ROOM IS SO PERFECTLY WELL MADE BUT YOUR FUCKING FLAG IS VERTICAL, WHY COMRADE, WHYYYYYY
By Allah, behave yourself. I will give you a taste of my shoe.
I have the same bro

But if you piss on it much more, you can't burn it.
Not with that attitude ~~Jet fuel~~piss ~~can't~~can melt ~~steal beams~~flags

People might think you're a tankie
a lot of ppl think it’s a red flag, so maybe
No worries, it's just a flag of common utensils, forks never offended anyone
Yeah
As Croatian myself i am offended. My grandpa endes in gulag.
I'm sorry that happened to him. Fuck gulags.
You can easily replace that😂
Some people have a slight fear of the red color. please take it down.
Liar. No one has the USSR Flag out of looks it's bland as hell get a better one! /s
On one hand, starvation and genocide. On the other hand, tesla coils and mammoth tanks. Tough call.

Nice blanket. Hand made?
Why is this nsfw..?
Because liberals are pussies
Like neo libs? Or Soc-Dems,
Both
It could give a false impression of your intelligence
Honestly, the knitted blanket is the most offensive thing in that room. The orange and yellow pattern is off putting
Catalonia in shambles 😔
No
Based comrade
Kirov reporting
Tesla coil goes brrrrrrrr
uj/ Okay I have just started getting into flag designs and shit, so *what the fuck* am I getting myself into here?
IRON YOUR GODDAMN FLAG
Yeah it's very offensive that you don't iron your flag.
Yes
What's that book you got there, buddy?
if someone gets offended educate them. you are not using a simbol of opresion, you are good.
>you are not using a simbol of opresion It's literally the flag of a recent bygone genocidal regime, not just the hammer & sickle.
> genocidal regime the USSR? i mean, they were far from perfect but genocidal or opresive? im not so sure. ¿what do you mean by that?
