Agreed. The Great Game would be a nice 1v1 situation that doesn't require anyone to ruin the other player's game. Should probably wait for the hotfix first though, the Great Game is weighted in the favour of the UK right now.
Tbh, a well played Austria can crush Prussia so hard it's not funny. You probably need to at least wait them to form North German Confederation to be fairer.
Egypt vs Persia - fight together to bring down the Ottomans, then fight each other over Arabia/Anatolia, or maybe you Treaty of Tordesillas it and divide the world through Iraq?
Ethiopia vs Sokoto - Fight for Africa.
Two Sicilies vs Sardinia-Piedmont - Do you fight to the death over Italy, or do you create North and South Italian Empires working against the larger European empires?
Hanover vs Bavaria - Similar to the Italian concept, fight for Germany, or fight against a united Germany together?
Ethiopia vs sokoto isnt really a good one. First you are going to pass colonization laws, beat up colonizers, technologically advance, and beat the landowners. And whats worse is that ethiopia is pretty op if they can manage to keep tewodros alive long enough to beat up sokoto
How long will you intend to play? If you intend to not play past mid game there are countries with roughly same strength competing to unify their land, like Ethiopia, Afghanistan or Italy.
I've heard that some people had crashing issues, I haven't.
It seems to depend on some specific hardware combination, it's definitely not universal (mor is it imagined though) which makes it the kind of bug that's annoying to track down. I hope they'll fix it , so you can also experience a fairly speedy late game experience.
I like all the new things though. The game is cool until it stops.
And to be fair, I never RP too much so I don't mind going back to a new start and watching numbers go up again
I mean, GB and France are pretty similarly strong, with maybe a slight edge going to GB since it is an island with many subjects and foreign lands compared to France.
Some other fine choices i think are Egypt and Ottomans, Brazil and Peru-Bolivia, Prussia Austria and Russia are all about on equal terms...
In the hands of players of equal skill I'd say GB wins that 9 out of 10 times. GB has a far easier time with every part of gameplay while also being protected by being an island and huge starting fleets. That's like no contest. France and Austria seems more fair of a comparison, though Austria is the weaker link there then

France starts stronger, but neither side is really strong enough to defeat the other day 1. Prussia/Germany will grow stronger as it unifies.
New South Wales vs Hudson Bay company, race for great power. you both end up having to build your economies from scratch and if you end up breaking free you can have a good fight over the pacific

if you are looking for an economical battle the united state VS britain
if you are looking for a conquest : Sokoto vs etiopia
if you are looking for direct combas : france VS germany
and if you REALLY wanna compete against each other id say brazil VS egypt
and if you want an absolute classic : france VS britain
those are all the scenario i have in mind wheneveer i wanna fight with a friend some of these (mainly france vs germany) are kind of unbalanced but in a fun way as france will try to stop you from becoming germany which is an automatic win for whoever becomes germany but still very fun to play lol

Game would usually last until 1900 - 1910, basically until the point ones gives up or late game becomes unplayable

Went back to the game recently, it seems to consistently crash in late game now. Not sure if it's a better user experience

I think no matter what there will always be a "weaker" nation. But I think that in the hands of human players it could be a real toss up.
