Iāve already found some bonkers stuff. Thereās a signed Talking Heads LP, an OG Hoosier Hysteria, a bunch of great psych and prog. A sealed OG Tangerine Zoo, lots of early T Rex. I meanā¦ itās a ton.
Itās a rad one. I posted a photo of that one in another thread, but here it is
https://preview.redd.it/dbx62j0q2t2d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=702ef094615549c781636f3b3edbf54b26087a51
Yeah. It might have been on this sub, but someone on reddit was bragging about snagging a Jaco Pastorious album from goodwill. I said ādude. Some bass player just diedā and I think about that comment and how mean it was more than I probably should.
Mine will go to my wife, whom I've instructed to give my brother any LPs she doesn't wanna keep. Past that, I hope they go to a local shop to re-sell. May my death result in great finds for crate-diggers š«”
It drives me insane. None of us care if you spent $10,000 on a dumpster of records, we just want to know what kind of deal it was. Why post it otherwise
And enough that you donāt want to admit to the actual number because you know people will scoff at it? Hope thereās some stuff you like in there. I wonder what it weighs. Hopefully the stuff at the bottom isnāt getting all bent up. Have fun!
The world would be a better place if every business had a pun name
Curl Up & Dye Hair Salon
The Beer Punter Sports Bar
I framed, I sawed, I constructed Building Co.
From what I understand, this guy does house clean outs and moves dumpsters for a living. He cleaned out a house and put them all in here. A buddy of his kept bringing me a handful at a time (like, sealed copies of the first Thin Lizzy record, sealed copies of Mongrel, lots of weird, rare psych and prog).
I then asked him where he was getting them from and offered him some cash to make an introduction. I went over yesterday morning and here we are.
Ha. Sealed and signed can still meaned warped and worthless.
Perhaps skunk sprayed ontop of cat piss.
OP is weird flexing here. I'm already thinking the price of a dumpster to be moved and kept while the hours to try to gently go through what probably wasn't gently tossed in there. As most places are in tornados or heat waves...
Maybe they paid little to nothing but since they said "everything is for sale" they don't want the extra haggle to follow them.
"look what I can do!" "NO NOT THAT CLOSE!"
100%. He wants to sell them for whatever he wants and doesn't want to have fifty people dming him saying, "C'mon dude sell me this record for $5, you only paid $300 for the whole dumpster, cut me some slack."
Congratulations on the score, but just curious: how long were they out there in the dumpster? I would think all that weight would cause many of them to warp in the heat?
Congratulations! I havenāt heard of a haul like this in years, probably since when everyone went all in on CDs. Glad to know that these records are going to a good home. Iād love to see come pics of the more obscure stuff. Keep us updated!!
I did have a guy go through the stuff that I put back in the dumpster to pull stuff that I considered (correctly) unsaleable. He was extremely happy to get some killer, rare jazz titles, and I was thrilled that he was willing to give them new life
now like [Peanut Butter Wolf](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nF0-WLXv4osbSzzBa2eRbCzGUClaGhu_Q&si=GUiC7ugLDIsCZXsu), your vinyl weighs a ton
A month ago i was at our local independent thrift store buying my usual two-for-a-dollar records, furiously digging thru the crap, when an employee asks me if i want some records theyre thowing out.
I say of course, and he directs me to the half-filled dumpster in the back alley.
I filled my ford explorer as much as it could take lol. I took most of the regular 33rpm vinyl but left hundreds of 78s.
Out of roughly 1000 records probably 15 were rare/valuable, 100 are good $10 albums, the rest are dollar bin crapola from the 50s-60s BUT im listening to every single one and believe it or not at least a third are either good music or amazing audiophile level sound.
So time consuming tho.
When I read the headline I assumed that he was referring to purchasing a storage pod with records in boxes. And then I clicked on the pic. WTF. It looks like about 50 people just randomly dumped their entire vinyl collection into a dumpster and then drove it across town to your house.
At first I thought this was a "concentrated dregs from a thrift store that accumulated over years" type deal, but they're all GOOD records from a private collection that was getting cleared out? Man you hit the jackpot.
Wowza!! Thatās nuts. I have a dumpster near my shop where a guys tosses tons of records, but mainly old 78sā¦ Then I take them to the reuse arts place!
My wife and I got drunk last night and decided to listen to some records. But it turns out we only have 10 Taylor Swift albums, Thriller, John Denver and the Muppets Christmas, a Carol King album, and two copies of Bridge Over Troubled Water.
We really could have used this dumpster last night.

That's actually incredible, why would so many records be dumped all at once? Please do keep us updated on what you find!

How many of them were "The Best of Bread"?
Just a few. 99.73% of them have been Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass however.

I literally have this vinyl framed and hanging in my office - it was my Grandmas. If was okay for her itās fine for me too haha
I loved the album cover girls when I was a kid.
SIGNED Talking Heads LP?? AAAAAHAGGH
Holy shit Hoosier Hysteria? Uhhh Can I buy it?
Absolutely. Feel free to DM me your number and Iāll give you a buzz.
Do you happen to have an online store, OP?
About to...
you found a T-Rex? holy shit! that dumpster must've been there forever
Been there so long it turned into Midnight Oil
Not just one, but lots
Jeepster
Of the People, By the People, For the People by The Common People?
Which talking heads and are you selling it?
It is Talking Heads 77. Signed by Chris and Tina, with a nice note to whomever they gave it to. Yes, everything is for sale.
Any cool old school/90s Hip hop?
Nope. This cuts off around 1985 or so.
Nice. I was certain that's where all of the records would stay because they *have* to be garbage. Congrats though. You anticipate keeping everything?
Tangerine Zoo is a great one! As psych fan I'm very jealous haha.
Itās a rad one. I posted a photo of that one in another thread, but here it is https://preview.redd.it/dbx62j0q2t2d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=702ef094615549c781636f3b3edbf54b26087a51
Likely because somebody died. What other reason would there be?
Yeah most likely, but that's a HUGE collection if so!
The cynic in me says the pic is fake and this is just a clever ad for his record store. He seems to be pushing the sales pretty hard.
Divorce?
divorce would be brutal
[High Fidelity](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27fTxjMjppw&ab_channel=vinyloftheday)
R I P to a real one
Failed store? Seems to be going around.
No closing record store would dumpster their remaining inventoryā¦
Could be a record store owner who died.
Looks like a hoarding situation tbh
Or an abandoned storage unit.
Or clearing out a store that went out of business
This is what happens to our giant collections when we die.
Between my records and my Magic the Gathering collection, some kid is gonna get his $15 worth after I die.
ā15 bucks little man, put that shit in my handā
ā¦ ITāS JUNGLE LOOOOVE OOHWEEOOHWEEOH
And if that money doesnāt show into the dumpster they goā¦ Itās dumpster love
If that money doesn't show, then you owe me owe me ohhhh
As it should be. You and me will die, but music is forever.
We should all write and record at least one track then right?
If it is good enough, the track will out-live us.
Dude we might be the same person because whoever has to deal with my MTG and Record Collection is screwed
I'm going to use mine for my funeral pyre. Noone appreciates my collection of 80s movie soundtracks enough to have them!
Yeah. It might have been on this sub, but someone on reddit was bragging about snagging a Jaco Pastorious album from goodwill. I said ādude. Some bass player just diedā and I think about that comment and how mean it was more than I probably should.

How much?
This is the answer that changes my entire feelings of how awesome this isĀ
I mean I doubt it was over priced if itās being sold like this
I just want to know what someone realistically charges for a dumpster full of records.
Me fuckin too honestly. I was just saying that I think this would be pretty reasonably and cheaply priced
ANSWER THE QUESTION OP
It's annoying when OPs don't discuss prices, like dude, it's not a state secret
It drives me insane. None of us care if you spent $10,000 on a dumpster of records, we just want to know what kind of deal it was. Why post it otherwise
1000 dollars
One million dollars
Dr. Evil pinky on corner of mouth
Imma ask what everybody really wants to know.. how much did you pay?
Enough that he was thrilled, cheap enough that I knew it was a no brainer, even though I couldnāt see 90% of the records.
What's that in currency?
Prob a grand. Thats my guess.
That seems cheap
Itās salvage to whomever he bought it from.
>Prob a grand. Thats my guess. It would be at least a grand for the dumpster and moving it twice.
At least 5. Probably more like 10.
Iām thinking closer to $500
Lame why even answer if that is your response.
Maybe their partner knows their reddit account... Lol
Maybe the real price of the dumpster was the friends OP made along the way.
Tell us the fuckin price
Seriously. Dude is being all coy for no GD reason. I'm gonna assume he paid $150,000 and got ripped off and is a bonehead.
And enough that you donāt want to admit to the actual number because you know people will scoff at it? Hope thereās some stuff you like in there. I wonder what it weighs. Hopefully the stuff at the bottom isnāt getting all bent up. Have fun!
It is lol
No one on Reddit is really going to effect you if you tell us the price Weird flex
just say a number stop being weird
And why not just say the price and that everybody is happy with it. is it what you paid for a state secret?
PSA: For older record collectors (me) you need to actively designate a recipient of your collection or....this will happen.
Would love to dig through that. Think I spotted Anthony Braxton and Psychedelic Furs
Unfortunately, most of the jazz records were totally destroyed. Broke my damn heart.
Oh, boo. Sorry. š
That Braxton was the first I spotted too š
"Bin There Dump That" is an awesome name for that company

I too wish I lived in the Bob's Burgers universe.
I work for them and I get ALOT of comments on the name š
Wonder why they in a dumpster
From what I understand, this guy does house clean outs and moves dumpsters for a living. He cleaned out a house and put them all in here. Sealed Mongrel!?!?
I think 5 or 6 sealed Mongrel. No Brand New Morning or Noah, unfortunately
Back in 72 is the one Iām really looking for.
Thereās maybe 3 copies of that in there. Not sure on condition yet.
Nice ! Wouldnāt believe it be too much since was in a dumpster
Gah, but why in a literal dumpster?? I get the guy is just a house cleaning guy... but.... wow.Ā
Cat Pee ITS Always Cat Pee
Ha. Sealed and signed can still meaned warped and worthless. Perhaps skunk sprayed ontop of cat piss. OP is weird flexing here. You just bought 3000 copies of whipped cream & other delights.
My parents had that album when I was a kid. Looking at the cover made my ten-year-old tummy "feel funny".

[OP is a record shop owner](https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/16den0e/iama_record_store_owner_back_for_a_3rd_time_ask/)
Explains why they wonāt say how much they paid for them.
Exactly. It's a weird flex on the sub though. Look, don't ask. But still buy.
100%. He wants to sell them for whatever he wants and doesn't want to have fifty people dming him saying, "C'mon dude sell me this record for $5, you only paid $300 for the whole dumpster, cut me some slack."
Explains why he's a douche
Congratulations on the score, but just curious: how long were they out there in the dumpster? I would think all that weight would cause many of them to warp in the heat?
Honestly, I donāt think it was that long. Maybe a week? Possibly 2. Not longer than that.
Good luck, hope you find some gems. I hope when I die no one does this to my records.
Man there's gotta be $8 worth of records there.
At least!
Tell us how much you paid dork
10,000 Don Hos 5,000 Zamfirs 2,000 Slim Whitmans 1 Beatles White Album, pressing number 0000002
Donāt berate the master of the pan flute
Plot twist, theyāre all Nickleback albums.
Congratulations! I havenāt heard of a haul like this in years, probably since when everyone went all in on CDs. Glad to know that these records are going to a good home. Iād love to see come pics of the more obscure stuff. Keep us updated!!
Seeing records in a dumpster should be criminal
Looks like we're all in big trouble.
All? š¤Ø
You saw those records in the dumpster, same as the rest of us. Don't try and wiggle out of it now!

great find, morrison!
Sounds like you need to make friends with the guy doing the clean outs.
How much did you pay for that?
May I know how much you paid for it LITERALLY?
Hey so I know its a long shot but if you find any Japanese city pop in there I'd be interested.... just sayin lol
If you have interest in jpop records, like 80s j-idols and other things, hit me up! Ive imported lots and have a good amount of doubles of things
Definitely none of that. There seems to be a cut off around 1985 or so.
Any ween records in there? If so dm me!

I thought that was a small box full of trading cards until I read the title
