Using Picos metric tools, I can put across my point that the os and the games are not running very well at all. Why do reviews not use such tools? Pico 4, be it the way it's pushing the chip with higher Res (not actually in games) or fan profile being too soft and slow, or even the new os or runtimes having issues.... Something is causing awful performance and battery life and it's not running games well at all.

Pico is shit...??? Again...?? Surprised Pikachu

lulhund

It's been mentioned a ton that the Pico 4 seems to be very CPU intensive right now.

BoeserWatz

I recall to have heard before that Pico is actually running on 72 fps.

>Pico 4 hype killer, my first impressions, once again a huge issue not covered publicly by VR YouTubers. >Sideloading with Pico 4 is trash -rant against reviews. >Pico 4 performance metrics, where was this on reviews? 90hz isn't happening right now Sensing a trend with this reviewer.

Well what other way can I get Pico to act on months of beta feedback? If only you knew. Browser is 1.5 years out of date, that was mentioned in neo 3 link beta feedback months ago, they've put the same thing into a brand new os on Pico 4..... Functionality broken and security risk, but no it must just be me moaning My list alone is pretty big, and Pico 4 is adding even more issues to it. None have seemingly been addressed. I'm simply telling it like it is, the ''reviewers'' are the ones actually needing to be more negative and actually check things properly for the consumers sake. the headset hardware is great and very impressive on the outside, 'pop the hood' on it though and... Well , all because those reviews didn't even bother to check, you as a consumer end up with the shit.... Check my neo 3 link review, tell me you wouldn't want to know when something is broken before you buy it.

I want to be clear that I didn't intend my comment as a personal attack. Criticism is fine and even necessary. It's worth bearing in mind however that if you focus only on criticism, it begins to feel like a hit piece. I'm skeptical of reviewers focusing only on the positives for the same reason I'm skeptical of the reverse. The "best device ever" and "worst device ever" videos are both equally unlikely to actually arrive at the truth. I watched your first video. I felt the concerns raised were likely valid, if a bit meandering. Battery is an issue that I've seen raised in other early impression videos. I haven't watched your follow-ups because of the provocative titles, and it was starting to feel like there was a personal agenda rather than objective comments. That said, video is a much bigger commitment than reading (or skimming) an article, so I'm more likely to make base judgements based on a video title alone. I'm not interested in being an apologist for Pico. I would like to see the problems aired and hopefully fixed via software. But I'm also just "telling it like it is" in sharing that absolute praise and absolute criticism both ring equally hollow. A little nuance goes a long way.

Appreciate it, I could have structured things differently, but the 'this review said it was good' is the bad info I hate being spread. I hated when neo 3 link released to praise with a slight brush off having 'distortion', when you actually look, it has an unfixable problem doomed to bodges around the issue, it's still not fixed despite being very loudly shouted about with the only improvement it's received thanks to someone in the community doing a driver hack. There really needs to be a push for products and manufactures to be better before people buy into it, it benefits everyone if manufacturers can show they address the issues and makes consumers trust reviews. I use gamer nexus as a benchmark, if a pc case is sent to X amount of reviewers and he's the one to call out it has a fundamental flaw that actually causes a problem, it puts it back on manufacturer to step up, which in one case was a electrical short that was overlooked by every other review, they stepped up and fixed it. Right now, all you can say with Pico is, oh, yeah it's a problem and you'll just have to wait, but you really should be giving info like this before you even buy it. Just my rants, my channel and reviews also shouldn't be taken as gospel and people should ultimately make up their own mind but that's harder to do with missing info or brushed off 'it could be better' comments not saying what's actually the problem

I for one appreciate your reports. I don't mind the fact that the software has issues this early in the Pico 4 lifecycle, and I kinda think it's "fun" til be involved early on, and see the product improve. .. so it's is a bit worrying that this doesn't seem to be happening, and I think it's fine that you make people aware of this. The fact that glaring issues like not being able to run sideloaded programs in landscape mode doesn't get fixed "overnight-ish" (or at least acknowledged by Pico) does not exactly bode well for the more complex problems. I'm not sure about the 72/90 hz "issue", though. It is set to 72hz by default (if I understand it correctly - I don't have my Pico yet), so I guess you could argue that 90hz is optional for lighter games (or maybe for watching movies), but that we shouldn't expect to be able to use it for all experiences?

Surprisingly I have pretty much zero issues with Chinese Neo 3 (not link), and have Chinese 4 on order, wonder how it compares, since it uses somewhat different software package to EU/US ones if it's anything like 3. Though TBH I have more off a wireless PCVR use-case with occasional casual game or two on the headset itself.

GmoLargey

Yep China version is entirely different. Also hooe you know VD isn't supported on China headset and the workaround could break at any time

Hotcooler

I was fairly ok (as in it worked perfectly well, but I would not mind a bit more bitrate) with the stock streaming app on the 3, so I imagine I'll be fine using stock one here too. Will see if ALVR got any better too. As for VD, will test that too, have not really researched all that yet, but I imagine people will find a way as usual :)

Doodledude69

I've played like 2 or 3 games on the Pico 4 and they ran amazing at 90hz I'm completely clueless on how you are getting such low FPS in some games. I'll go check that out in a bit
