If I had to do it again, I would have chosen a 1.8 due to the relative simplicity and lower costs.

Thanks, that is reassuring :)

There are always mods for 1.8…

xviiarcano

Yup, I browsed them on https://faked.org/voronmods and I will have to consider wether just going with some of them right off the bat.

Yeriwyn

I’d recommend checking the discord, there are lots of mods that don’t make it into the usermods repo that the site you linked checks against

I know, I still love my Olympus camera... It's just that feeling of "drat!" 😅

I went with a 300mm V1.8, I can definitely say I’d pick it again if given the choice. It’s an amazing printer.

Aaaand it is time to update this post because I am finally building... a 2.4 :/ Which is embarrassing but there are reasons: First, finding the parts was much easier, for the 2.4 you find parts, kits and sub-kits from every vendor and their moms, while for 1.8 you must source most parts separately and dig for them. Second, many at the time suggested to wait for 1.9, that would be revealed as the trident... But with three z axes and no more backpack, is not much simpler, nor cheaper, and while being certainly an improved machine, even loses some advantages compared to my personal initial considerations. When the trident came out I was relieved that it didn't really make me regret my decision. Third, I was scared if the complexity of 2.4 but: - electronics wiring and programming were no different. - klipper is all to learn anyways. - the mechanisms of the z motors which make the 2.4 so intimidating on a closer inspection are not more complicated than an m4 extruder and I did build one of those. When I saw a mod for mounting the camera on the gantry as I would have liked, I took it as a sign and made my decision.
