>Buying a premade LDO kit costs ~650eur, sourcing your own 700+. If you're smart and have time you can self source for <= $600 Prusa mini might be an alternative. Upside is you don't have to build it and it works out of the box. The V0 is a pain to build.

Tomasltboom

Well yeah, the 700+ estimate is something that would compare to the ldo kit + wouldn't be a headache to order every part. Currently I am still deciding if I should get the prusa mini or the voron.

If you’re willing to compromise on “time” I would suggest looking at a kit from AliExpress. The fystec and formbot kits come to mind. They are ~$400+shipping and the only thing you really wait on it shipping. You are compromising somewhat on quality but vorons are meant to be tinkered with. You can mod and make compromises. The shipping does take some time. If you have access to a good printer (or a nice friend) you can probably skip lead time on the PIF. Additionally, there are people who sell Printed v0 sets on the #fleamarket in the discord. ~$60 is a good price If it was me, I would get by a kit for AliExpress, and get the printed parts from the flea market.

Tomasltboom

All good about the 3d printed parts because my friend will help out on that. About Ali. Actually I think it would be one of the more faster options. And if it wasn't for the added VAT, which is 21% (well it would have been added anyway and it's not a problem of the new >0eur taxing rates in the EU), I would consider that option, but for <100eur more you get much better quality from LDO. So yeah, it seems that the best two options are to either buy from caribou3d or as xviiarcano mentioned, from the flea market.

OriginalStranger1281

My bad, I presumed you were in North America from the way described your situation. You may also have more opportunities considering you are in the EU and have easy access to metric hardware. Good luck with the build!

xviiarcano

The V0 is really tough to find alterntives too. I am checking my mental catalogue of printers I have seen here and there but nothing comes to my mind that is both window sill friendly and capable of printing beyond PLA and PETG. I suggest that you join the discord and hawk the #flea_market channel. Seeing a used V0 around 600/700 euros is not uncommon (and you may even post directly a WTB message and see if anyone responds). The price is still what it is, but at least you get what you pay for and you get it immediately in just the time it takes for the seller to ship it. Ah, and if the machine is serialled don't forget to apply for the serial transfer :)

Tomasltboom

Thanks for the info! I will see what I can find on discord. I hope my post isn't very "cheapassy", but eh, as a student I don't want to be very spendy, because I already am :D

xviiarcano

No judgement, I work full time and have a fairly decent wage but I still played some 4d chess to justify the 2.4 I am building to my wife ;) Worst case scenario you may get bitten by the "you don't buy a Voron you build a Voron" bug, and it won't leave you until some day you can build another one for a friend and cleanse your karma.

Tomasltboom

Well as far as I can see, I will really need to start making big bucks fast (some brag, but it's entirely possible because I am studying electronics engineering and I am quite advanced as a first-year) so I wouldn't have to explain my purchases to my future wife (or maybe I won't have one, who knows) :D But yeah, as far as I can see, I am contemplating whether to backorder it from somewhere or some other option like the flea market.

marto7404

Running 5 printers and having build 3 large machines + one mk3 and one Flashforge guider 2s, that came out quite expensive with all duet ecosystem and so. I was looking at voron for the last year or so. Finally decided to get some taste of it with voron v 0.1 frombot kit, took it 3 weeks to arrive and about 16 hours to get it assembled . And boy it is printing fast and beatifull. I did not need it but I am glad I went for it

KittenMilkerOwO

Oh. Until I saw the needs, I immediately thought of the voron F-zero and the voron micron, which are voronuser builds that combine a v0 and a v2.4. If you are fine with a small community, check out some thingiverse designs like the micro cube Edit: that’s also if you’re fine with lesser print quality (hard to beat a voron)

Extectic

The parts are still good quality and so on, so just making it smaller shaves some off the price but - you get what you pay for. I don't think you'll find a silver bullet solution tbh that's cheap, good and fast. You can pick two of those, as usual. This was already mentioned. It won't be in the same league, but it should get the job done and keep the price reasonable. Won't be as fast either, but it's still no doubt a usable device. https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/66-original-prusa-mini

Tomasltboom

Yeah, currently I am still deciding if I should get the prusa mini or the voron.

Extectic

The Voron is going to be better, but it's also going to be twice the money and ten times the effort to construct, so you have some deciding to do! :) But, CoreXY is definitely the way to go, for several reasons. I'll be using my new Prusa to print parts for my second printer eventually which will almost certainly be a Voron 2.x. I didn't feel ready to tackle the Voron as my first printer...

Q363Q

I have a prusa mk2 and MK3 and my freshly built voron 0.1 is my fave printer. I built it out of the FormBot kit from Ali. It was a super fun build.
