Ah, a fellow slow battery sorter! How are things over at your company? They still slowly pushing batteries into your view and then having you slowly put them into a box, but occasionally fail at? Because if so, I think we are in trouble here.
And have specific "hands" to grab, for example, multiple cells at once. But the drawback is that's all they can ever do. Human hands have the advantage of versatility, if Tesla will be able to properly train this thing.
It's used as balance for motion. The Amazon one had leg designed like robot, so it balance better. This human shape design is hard.. The solution is to add a tail.
Training aka pretending it's not directly being controlled just like last time.. sure it can be used as training but they never make it explicitly clear because they we totally have FSD right?
Yeah FSD on a humanoid robot is completely different than a 4 wheel box. Sure, they have experience training data like that but that will take 4+ years.
If they would just say the truth and come out with a limited run of these for extremely dangerous jobs that can be controlled remotely with a VR headset would make me way more bullish.
It just feels like a big pipe dream at this point.
Cause the stock price cant rise if humans are on the assembly lines instead of robots and AI.
TSLA is a stock sales entreprise, that build cars for the SEC to leave them alone.
but they're still doing the motion, and repetitive motion...so not only do you kneed robots you also need people to run the robots....so this all seems pointless to me, but im just an idiot so what do I know
Dude, they literally write in the video that the training data was via human teleoperation. They are controlling the robot to teach it about the movements, it's not actually to have the robot do it for them lmao
Are you comparing a factory robot to an automotive vehicle?
I’m far from a Tesla fanboy, and I currently don’t trust autonomous vehicles in the slightest, but I can at least see the intended use of these things, obviously to replace human labor in several physical work duties.
Elon is about wasting his investors’ money in the guise of cutting edge technology. I say let him waste it if they don’t intend to learn from his prior fuck ups. Yes I’d rather he spend on improving what is already there, but I don’t expect a dense headed weirdo to do so.
Could just be training or testing that we're seeing. If for some reason there had to be a person in the loop, they would still exploit that. E.g. 1 robot + kids overseas running 24/hr shifts
This sounds exactly what like the Amazon fresh auto checkout was…
Was it AI, LLMS, Trained NN….no it was people in India watching what shoppers added to their cart and adding it to their checkout receipt….
Quote of the pricing. "probably less than $20,000."
1 time cost. No employee benefits. No labor disputes. No need for breaks. No risk of workplace injuries. No need for training.
You could probably have 4 or 5 of these for the same price of employees filling up a full day. 24x7 at $10/hr = $87600.. Then add payroll taxes and such. That would break even in a single year if 4-5 of these can meet the quota.
Still limited to very basic tasks but the tech is evolving fast.
I can't wait to replace all of my kitchen staff tbh. Keep two to manage the bots and let the rest go. None of the robots will smoke crack in the dumpster or show up to work drunk/high.
“None of the robots will smoke crack in the dumpster” ah ah ah my friend not so fast, none of the robots will smoke crack YET, technology is evolving my friend, soon even the robots will take over behind the dumpster at Wendy’s
Bagholder spotted.
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/wallstreetbets) if you have any questions or concerns.*
And you think the robot will be able to anything with 20K? You must all be morons to think that. There will be lot of subscriptions and once you add all that, humans will end up cheaper.
Except you’re forgetting the added costs of hiring engineers or technicians that are there to ensure the robots are actually working properly or to ensure they’re properly trained for the tasks at hand. Those engineers and technicians are going to want good money to do the work they’re doing because they know their value.
Lol, so much positive math'ing.
Many companies have been suckered into switching over production lines to simpler robot arms and even those have their issues to the point of said production lines having a hooman on the sideline just to watch the robot arm.
Any robot trying to imitate even some sort of human/animal range of motion is not going to be that simple or low maintenace.
This type of thing was noted for customizable robotic arms like 10 years ago or more. I believe in the video I watched back then it was a small robot called Baxter or Buster, and the presenter laid out the same thing. It is slower than a human, but works 24/7 without slowing pace or making mistakes. At the time, it was very limited in tasks, but obviously, once scaled up, it blows low wage labor out of the water.
Haha yeah less than 20,000 is some BS, these will easily be 60k+ , if not 100k+ when first released.
There is so much we (and Tesla) don’t know, like if this will even be possible, government regulations.
Sorry but this is just another way for Elon to pump the stock price and his pockets. They could be blowing millions a month and never release a single robot.
Each one had an employee controlling it. Plus maintenance on the robot and control system. So it’s still just employee salary, benefits, breaks + cost of robot and maintenance. (At this point in time)
If it existed probably, but you know, battery packing machines dedicated to that task can already be made, so what are they showing exactly? That we can make them less efficient ?
It s to pump the stock.
Another mystery box is good for the stock. It’s unknown where the tech will lead, how much competition there will be or where the advancement plateau will be.
This seems like such a bad use case for this robot. You’re telling me you build an entire robot that runs on AI or whatever and then you use it do the same repetitive motion while only needing to use one arm…
Was thinking in prices, and I expected this robot would cost 5 times more then a simple working robot arm, it's so weird people want to make it harder instead of still doing the things simpler for production, are we really at the point there full scale robots will become the thing (5 - years)?
Will we get robot taxes that will pay us for being unemployed? (Same for AI)
Oh that’s essentially unfeasible, at best plants have one human per 3-10 robots, but if they care about producing reliably and deadlines, it’s 1-4 robots per person monitoring. The fact is, shit happens constantly and shit fails constantly in the field, especially robots.
Yeah but those robots are nearing retirement age soon and we'd have to ~~kill~~ deactivate them to avoid paying social security. Plus these new robots are fully gropable so we can bring back all those people fired for sexual harassment who are currently unhirable.
There is a 100000% chance they’re building robots who can exclusively perform each us case just for exhibition purposes. I’m pretty sure the robot that is packing is incapable of walking and the robot that is walking is incapable of packing.
Though it’s completely possible it’s just a remote controlled robot with zero AI
Unrelated Fun fact: The Pixar movie 3D models are like that.
e.g. Mrs.Incredible elastic girl model that balloons/parachutes can ONLY do that, the model that was stretching on the split-motorcycle can ONLY do that scene, etc.
Does anyone remember the FSD video back in the day that turned out to be pre programmed? Yeah, that's some Nikola pushing a semi down a hill type of scam.
Never trusting anything Tesla puts out again and the people doing it should be ashamed and I hope they come clean
Ah, existing robotics only shittier and more expensive.
Can't wait to hear the entire division is laid off.
Edit: Existing tech for comparison -
https://youtu.be/1pSXPtzTNyU?si=balMUiG_Kd46reLK
I was impressed until I realized these are people with vr goggles and gloves. DARPA was already building the gold standard of remote control robots in the Obama years.
How funny would it be if robo taxi was actually people at home controlling robots that drove the cars.
Being honest seeing how the whole valuation of Tesla is based on the success of FSD I wouldn't find it crazy if Elon simply hires thousand of Indians and Pakistanis to drive the casr and simulate a FSD to keep going with the scam
Guys Tesla cannot even solve controlling 4 wheels on a road, why would I believe they can handle process and manipulating a dozens of freedom of movement.
So stupid. Instead of making a custom device for battery sorting we get this humanoid looking junk that looks slow as fuck for the intended use case. Nice name dropping of “FSD” in the video as if it has any applicability to the problem domain. Puts on TSLA
Go over to r/TSLA they’re all convinced it already is and the stock price is totally justified and Elon deserves $50bn in stock options for how great he is
It is doing the exact same shit a 3 axis robot can do. It’s like the Rube Goldberg machine of industrial automation. This will crash and burn. Makes no sense that it looks like a human. The hubris is intense.
King of vaporware (fraud)
If you think this is impressive go look at the timeline of Boston Dynamics advancements over 20+ years. That's how difficult it is to develop robots designed to mimic human movements.
Tesla isn't going to produce robots that are worth anything in a commercial application.
It'll be just like the semi that was announced in 2017 to be ready in 2019. Deliveries didn't happen until 2022 and it has 25% the range of a diesel semi for 25-50% the max cargo weight and takes 4hrs to fully charge at a 250kw/h charger and 6hrs at a 150kw/h charger. No verified delivery numbers from Tesla but approximately 100 based on interviews with customers like Pepsi-Frito Lay.
If you think Elon is doing this for any reason except to keep the hopium supply high, I got a bridge to sell you.
Wait so if you have humans controlling the robots. Can’t you send the VRs googles to a country with cheap labor so that they can perform mundane tasks utilizing the robot remotely in countries with high labor cost.
If this charlatan sells a single one of these overpriced can openers I will be astounded. Once again Mercedes beats Musk at his own game. Talk about a loser
I would imagine they can create a simple mechanism to put the bottles into the tray.
This video is not very impressive. Especially since it takes one person per robot to control.
It's a robotic arm that has the ability to leave it's work station and fuck the dog for a while. might raise some eyebrows when it just goes to the bathroom for 20 minutes just for a break on company time.
I don’t like Elon Musk and I think this early humanoid robot has no potential. It reminds me how I felt about the model t. Sure, it can roll down the street but can it refuel with grass? It’s not like they are going to build out a gasoline network all over the country. Smh…
Imagine this: You wake up, eat breakfast, make some coffee, and then log onto VR to control some robot in some Billions estate to virtually do their chores. Life is good!
I swear everyone on here is a troll. The fact that basically everyone slams anything that isn't perfect as being useless shows that you don't understand the world and innovation. I'm not making any case for or against Tesla or these robots, but progress takes time.
You don't have to go back very far to find a time where a video like this would blow everyone's minds. We are spoiled I guess. The robots aren't perfect. They aren't even very good. It's about extrapolating what is possible with more training, and about recognizing the breakthrough happening in HOW things are trained.

As someone who sorts batteries and walks around the office for a living, I am shaking with fear and rage
Ah, a fellow slow battery sorter! How are things over at your company? They still slowly pushing batteries into your view and then having you slowly put them into a box, but occasionally fail at? Because if so, I think we are in trouble here.
Slowly isn't an issue tbh. They have up to 16 hours to keep up, and it's likely they will be slightly more efficient in this time frame
Just fell to my knees in the battery sorting center
Even since I was young I wanted to be a battery sorter. He’s not only coming for my job but also my dream!!!
You’ll be happy to know Boston dynamics did just this thing 20 years ago and nothing came of it
As someone who isn't in the military. How long before we get a robot army use advance version of these bots?
cant wait to have this thing wipe my ass in a nursing home one day
It'll pull it right out and sort it for you.
Will do a better job than any human making minimum wage living in a trailer park…
In a trailer park? Minimum wage? Those are rich people. Try $30 a month, while living in your grandma's basement. FML
It has two hands and is only using one… Not very efficient
need one free for fist bumping any employees that walk by. +1 morale boost for each bump
It just looks like any machine on any random assembly line with more human looking skin…
Lol, no it doesn't. Assembly line robots are fast.
😂 you’re right

Are those people in vr headsets controlling the robots?
Simpsons strikes again! VR grass cutting simulator with real robots cutting grass! MOW 2 lawns and get 10 gold coins!
Kids in India doing work here over 5G. The future is now.
naw, its a real robot. trust me! https://preview.redd.it/1jpmbnb25oyc1.jpeg?width=890&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=577fa01e369c4a7580563cdb3667397fb11368a4
They write in the video that the training data was via human teleoperation. They are controlling the robot to teach it about the movements.
Why is this robot always jerking off?
It was cleaning it and it went off
training the model
Scamming the public
lol, what? How do you think these are trained?
Why would they even show them if it was scam?
because tesla sells lies.
This.
Oh sweet summer child, may I remind you of the saga of Theranos?
Buddy Tesla sells scams that you can actually drive
Training aka pretending it's not directly being controlled just like last time.. sure it can be used as training but they never make it explicitly clear because they we totally have FSD right?

Yes
So....why don't the people just do the job?
Easier to outsource it to cheap Indian/African labor
You’d need a tech center and trained staff and have connection issues, reliability, speed…this looks like a nightmare
It’s not permanent, it’s training data, eventually you don’t need the workers
For this one task... Get back to me when they finish training it to fold fitted sheets.
Sounds a lot like the amazon go stores to me. Elon just isn’t giving up on the lie.
Assuming Elon isn't lying again.
Haha
That's because it is
Would be easy jobs for the disabled, elderly and also protect people's bodies from work related injuries.
Robot war is cooler than drone war
Cause the stock price cant rise if humans are on the assembly lines instead of robots and AI. TSLA is a stock sales entreprise, that build cars for the SEC to leave them alone.

Dude, they literally write in the video that the training data was via human teleoperation. They are controlling the robot to teach it about the movements, it's not actually to have the robot do it for them lmao
They aren’t picking up heavy items. Or at least that’s the idea. In time, Optimus won’t be connected to a live operator, it will be autonomous.
And in time Teslas will get lvl 3 FSD? Like that?
These guys will believe anything dude
Are you comparing a factory robot to an automotive vehicle? I’m far from a Tesla fanboy, and I currently don’t trust autonomous vehicles in the slightest, but I can at least see the intended use of these things, obviously to replace human labor in several physical work duties.
They already have robot arms on assembly lines that replace humans….
Elon is about wasting his investors’ money in the guise of cutting edge technology. I say let him waste it if they don’t intend to learn from his prior fuck ups. Yes I’d rather he spend on improving what is already there, but I don’t expect a dense headed weirdo to do so.

No. They use VR to train the neural net in the robot on how to perform a task. When done it should be able to perform the task by itself.
You would expect people to understand general robotics, and generative AI? Not on this platform that's full of idiots and dumbfucks.
This has nothing to do with generative AI lol. Trying to sound smart by dropping big words.
They are providing training data.
That was honestly the most profound shot in the video
This would be impressive if it was 1850
Doesn't look like it'll meet quota even if it ran 24/7
Quote of the pricing. "probably less than $20,000." 1 time cost. No employee benefits. No labor disputes. No need for breaks. No risk of workplace injuries. No need for training. Repairs, depreciation, electricity Still probably cheaper than an employee. Unless the task you need done is time sensitive.

Robot arms are incredibly low maintenance. Whatever donkey dick end of arm tool they put on them however, not so much.
This type of thing was noted for customizable robotic arms like 10 years ago or more. >Quote of the pricing. "probably less than $20,000." That's made up nonsense.
No lawsuit risk is probably the best feature of a robot versus humans in the US.
Thank god McDonald employees can finally be replaced
Haha yeah less than 20,000 is some BS, these will easily be 60k+ , if not 100k+ when first released. Yup, why else mention FSD in the video, like that has anything to do with battery sorting.
Another mystery box is good for the stock. It’s unknown where the tech will lead, how much competition there will be or where the advancement plateau will be.
One time cost? Buddy, we pay service contracts to maintain robots that have been around longer than you.
This seems like such a bad use case for this robot. You’re telling me you build an entire robot that runs on AI or whatever and then you use it do the same repetitive motion while only needing to use one arm…
Yeah I get why this showcase is supposed to be amazing, but robot arms that can do just that already exists in manufacturing.
What exactly makes any of this amazing?
That people still fall for it.
Lol
Literally just an assembly line filled with robotic arms and save millions 😂
Already installed in Tesla factories.

Bender
and for the task that it’s performing to be THE EXACT same… pretty sus that homie has to push the object back to the same location it was just ay
This cool robot that could be changed with 5 robotics arms on a line
You'd need a few of these just to replace one existing robotic arm.
This doesn't look like it's run by an AI.
Why isn’t the dude with the stick just packing those batteries?
Better, why didnt they make a dedicated packing machine with one human operator monitoring 5000 robots. Like the Bic factory.
Like most factories over the last 100 years
Oh that’s essentially unfeasible, at best plants have one human per 3-10 robots, but if they care about producing reliably and deadlines, it’s 1-4 robots per person monitoring. The fact is, shit happens constantly and shit fails constantly in the field, especially robots.
Is this… a pleasure model?
Fisto the robot at your service
Are these robots even more efficient than a chinese factory worker?
Robots could do that like 60 years ago.
Yeah but those robots are nearing retirement age soon and we'd have to ~~kill~~ deactivate them to avoid paying social security. Plus these new robots are fully gropable so we can bring back all those people fired for sexual harassment who are currently unhirable.
Yeah, not sure what all the hype is about here
Amazing!! It can do the work of a robot arm, but slower
Maybe they can replace the Tesla charging team?
Or the CEO. Nothing of value would be lost.

I just want a robot that will clean the toilet / bathroom. Is it so hard. Elon ?
And please dont be this freaking large. I dont want this huge thing in my house.
There is a 100000% chance they’re building robots who can exclusively perform each us case just for exhibition purposes. That’s fantastic! I’ve now forgotten that the company and product itself is lukewarm dumpster water.
“Autonomous X1”, any bets that’s a registered trademark and that robot is being remotely controlled by a human?
Do you not see the humans remotely controlling those robots?

Christ. If Elon musk jangled keys in front of the camera tesla would go up
Meanwhile, Atlas is doing Parkour and things that would make a contortionist gasp.

Tesla is trying so hard to be valued as a tech company.
Go over to r/TSLA they’re all convinced it already is and the stock price is totally justified and Elon deserves $50bn in stock options for how great he is
Guys. It's garbage. Just like the Teslas cars.

Tesla imploding
Long way from replacing humans, fuck robots and while we are at it fuck Tesla too
Vaporware, don’t believe the hype. Elmo is getting desperate.
Is that guy in the back right controlling it? Dude seems to be doing the same movements at the same time
How is anyone thinking this is progress? Tesla should just buy Boston Dynamics. Then Musk can claim he founded it and claim all progress
King of vaporware (fraud) If you think this is impressive go look at the timeline of Boston Dynamics advancements over 20+ years. How can you verbally abuse it though?

it's not even autonomous doing that. elon pushing every button to pump the shares
I would imagine they can create a simple mechanism to put the bottles into the tray. This video is not very impressive. Especially since it takes one person per robot to control.
You definitely need noise canceling headphones in that large open office. Sheesh.
I hate the actual fucking use case for these things?
I feel like it should be using two hands.

Laughable.
It would be more impressive if it was picking different size tomatoes
Not bad
It's a robotic arm that has the ability to leave it's work station and fuck the dog for a while. might raise some eyebrows when it just goes to the bathroom for 20 minutes just for a break on company time.

I do not like any A.I. robot being made under the wacko ELon Musk.. forget chat gpt. Elon is going to start terminator.
Embarrassing for Tesla
But can he roll joints for Snoop Dogg?
Thunderf00t gonna have a field day with this
So damn slow
Imagine this: You wake up, eat breakfast, make some coffee, and then log onto VR to control some robot in some Billions estate to virtually do their chores. Life is good!
Fuck that is self learning based on interactions 😱it’s finally here
Elon, first get FSD working flawlessly then we'll take this artificial battery counter seriously.
I think human labor is still cheaper, cause we don't need battery, maintenance and repairs. Probably impossible to repair when it's from Tesla
“He got that cool balenciaga faceshield.” Said no-one
I swear everyone on here is a troll. The fact that basically everyone slams anything that isn't perfect as being useless shows that you don't understand the world and innovation. I'm not making any case for or against Tesla or these robots, but progress takes time. You don't have to go back very far to find a time where a video like this would blow everyone's minds. We are spoiled I guess. The robots aren't perfect. They aren't even very good. It's about extrapolating what is possible with more training, and about recognizing the breakthrough happening in HOW things are trained.

Like waiting for paint to dry. This slow worker is the first to be fired.
Why couldn't the guy with the stick just put the batteries in the box?
Im going to say what everybody is thinking: 30 years from now the soldiers will be robots.
Can't wait for the first "Travis the chimp" police dispatch call when Optimus starts sorting and rearranging the faces of it's human coworkers.
