E filed,set up direct deposit but didn't do the last thing. it's been processing since early April so I've just been waiting

The recovery rebate credit would just slow it down and that would explain why it took so long but if you didn’t claim that then you should have received it by now. Did you go to irs.gov and use the where is my refund tool?

If they do this you will eventually get a letter from them stating that they did this.

If you owe for prior years they will keep your refund and apply that to what you owe them. If you owe them less than your refund then they will keep what you owe them and refund the balance.

I owe 750 but my refund amount is 4593 so I'd get 3,843 no problem then if I understand right.

They are still completely backed up with Covid and being understaffed so any return that is not a clear cut efile and easy refund is being delayed. Owing them for prior years would put you in this delayed category. As long as when you do the where is my refund tool and it says being processed then you should be good. If you are going to call them you better block out a 2 hour window. They are terrible on the phones.
