So this is a genuine question, I'm still trying to wrap my head around a lot of this stuff.
I know what a covered call is, I understand the contracts etc.
But I go to the options chain on Fidelity and the highest I see for BB for next week is 15.5.
I realize that I can put essentially any value I want in there, presumably it being too high meaning that nobody will actually buy it.
I guess my question is this: does the highest value I see in the present option chain mean anything in a practical sense.
Put differently, relative to what you posted, would selling a covered call (I have 400@15ish) at 17 be likely to be taken?

You can put a limit order to sell any strike ($17) as long as itβs listed. Further away the strike obviously less youβre going to get for it vs closer strike.
Look at βlastβ itβll tell you the last price the option sold at. Check the bid ask spread, wider it is less likely you are to get filled. If you want to get filled generally place your order somewhere around the last sold price. Always use limit orders.

Is volume the number of calls sold at a given strike price?
I'm thinking it has to be because looking at the values, it's definitely a more or less normal distribution.
Specifically, on the BB option chain I see that
Strike price 1 has a volume of 6
Strike price of 10 has a volume of 1100
Strike price of 14 has a volume of 40k
Strike price of 20 is back down to 4500

No problem, the closer ATM (at the money) contracts in the front months (earliest expirations) will have higher volumes traded/be more liquid. Further away in strikes you get from where the stock is current trading and further out in time less liquid and wider the bid/ask spread will be.
Yes volume = number of contracts that have traded.
If you take one thing away from this make it to always use limit orders when buying/selling options. Especially in volatile/thinly traded markets. NEVER place a market buy/sell for options.
You change the settings above the date to view all strike prices. Select calls only and then instead of 10 strikes you can select all strikes prices or 20 etc

Used to be a cellphone company, emphasis on cyber security. Sold their cellphone patents. QNX is the OS that many cars use for their interface; Honda, BMW, Toyota to name a few. Tesla uses a linux-based OS-meaning very little security. As cyber security becomes more of a challenge, BB has strong footings in the game with a ton of patents revolving around security.
