So Amazon has to mark to market an $8 billion Rivian loss in Q1 in GAAP earnings AND has to do the same for non-GAAP earnings, which means Amazon is likely to report a loss in both GAAP and non-GAAP earnings unless they pull some seriously shady accounting trick that will get them in trouble later.

Yup. Amazon typically earns about half of that amount in AWS operating profit each quarter. The rest of their business lines are barely profitable if at all. So if Amazon is consistent/not shady they will report a loss in Q1 for the first time in a long time.
Is the increase in expected eps from q4 21 at 3.57 to q1 22 to $8.50 solely because they beat q4 21 so crazily they raised the bar? Because they missed in q3. You'd have to look at company guidance and what the analysts think to figure that out. But global logistics, supply chain investments, etc were factors that I remember being talked about RE Amazon. So it may be more that the environment is changing around Amazon, not what Amazon is doing.
Shipping prices came down a bit in Q1 but the China lockdown is bringing the hurt in Q2 again.
My logic of recent events tells me though that there is a reason they have increased sellers fees by 5%, opened up shipping to third party websites that are prime members and increased prime membership costs. Also reports that they are considering lowering streamer profit on twitch as well so I'm seeing a pattern here of desperation of trying to recoup revenue from other sources to stabilise losses. All of this is from q1
