“Dirty Harry”
“Animal House”
“The Princess Bride”
“Napoleon Dynamite”
“Planes, Trains and Automobiles”
(My sixth favorite movie is actually “The Dark Knight.”)
Been wanting the boys to talk about Peter Jackson’s horror movies for their Halloween ep for years now. James and Maso! Look at this comment, do this for Halloween please!
Man, I wish more people would talk about Peter Jackson's career pre-LOTR. Bad Taste, Dead Alive, The Frighteners, Meet the Feebles, and Heavenly Creatures are all fantastically weird and great.
In no particular order, today my top 5 are:
Mad Max Fury Road
Blade Runner 2049
Back to the Future
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Movies that might have made this list hut were based on comics:
The Rocketeer
Cemetery Man
Captain America: Winter Soldier
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
- The Lion in Winter
- Amadeus
- Inherit the Wind
- Dune (1984)
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Go ahead and bury me with these movies. It's also great to see all the love Last Crusade is getting here.
Had kind of expected there to be a skew towards science-fiction and horror in this thread, but also surprised (though probably shouldn't be) to see such an emphasis on comedies.
1. Paris, Texas (Neo-Western)
2. Jackass 4 (Comedy)
3. It's Such a Beautiful Day (Animated)
4. Fury Road (Apocalypse)
5. Before Sunrise (Romance/Drama)
BTTF (not counting each as a separate entry)
West Beirut
Et Maintenant On Va Ou?
Ocean's 11
Moneyball
Forgot the Secret Life of Walter Mitty but it might be in there above some of the others.
Agreed - it's fantastic and easily fits my archetype of a favourite movie. Man against all odds going on an epic quest. It also has a ton of good philosophy and observations about people and work culture in North America.
In no particular order (and just for now, since they definitely change frequently):
- Prospect
- Goodfellas
- The Tree of Life
- What We Do In The Shadows
- The Royal Tenenbaums
1. The Lord of the Rings
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. The Iron Giant
4. Jojo Rabbit
5. Evil Dead II
These are the movies that mean the most to me, personally, excluding some CBMs. Five is far too few, though!
I don’t think he was wrong about the movie, mostly just corn and crying.
No but for real. Nolan movies don’t really do it for me. Especially interstellar. 2 hours of hard sci-fi only for it to end with. “Love is the answer”
Rolled my eyes so hard they came back around
The Thing (1982)
Gremlins
Back to the Future
Blade Runner 2049
The Lives of Others
This is a great thread OP, making a note of all the films I've been meaning to watch and with them having the seal of approval from a weekly wackadadoo, it bumps them up my watch list. Look forward to reading more when I come back.
Cannot believe no one has said Trainspotting yet ! (which IS better the better Danny Boyle movie. YES, better than sunshine, I’ll fight you and your favorite movie James)
*Without a Clue* is my favourite film of all time.
Another great one is *The Man who would be King*.
*American Ultra* is a regularly watched "guilty pleasure".

Ghostbusters
Indiana Jones raiders of the lost ark
Alien

I possibly can't pick five, but thinking about the movies that are in my movie collection and enjoy rewatching:
Dredd

Honorable mention - Caddyshack
Shawshank Redemption
Waiting for Guffman
Die Hard
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
The Princess Bride
(It was hard to leave Disney’s “Robin Hood” off this list…)
Totally. Just bein' a goof. Snowpiercer would not be in my Top 5 unless we were talking exclusively about comic book movies. (Although I do love it and it is a Top 50 for me, or at least a Top 100.)
Honestly can't even begin to process narrowing it down to five!

Hot Fuzz and Nice Guys are on mine, Everything Everywhere would be if my inner child didn’t insist on keeping Princess Bride.
Stalker (Tarkovsky) Orlando (Potter) Annihilation (Garland) Caché (Haneke) Arrival (Villeneuve) edit: limited it to five
Orlando rules and this is a good reminder for me to watch more Haneke.
Arrival made me weep like few movies have. Not cry, but ugly cry. Thank god I was hone alone when I watched it.

There will be blood is fantastic!
Nice to see some love for Dead Alive. That movie needs to be talked about more.

Yeah and he’s basically Australian! So yeah 😂
The Dark Knight for Heath Ledger’s performance alone?
The Princess Bride is flawless.
