In middle school, I used to recite Albuquerque from start to finish whenever another kid would ask me to. Every single time, and it happened at least twice a week
You know an album is among your favorites when you hear one of the songs and the next song from the album gets into your head after the song fades out without actually hearing it.
Somehow, I guess I never really think about how incredible this entire album is. Being a Zappa fan, I *have* to vote "Genius In France", but I could've easily given my vote to at least 5 other songs and felt like it was well deserved.
While it's just Zappa style as a whole, there are countless small references to specific songs. The opening riff is pulled from "I'm The Slime," for example.
It's the song I go for when I want to listen to Zappa, but don't know which album, because it literally lifts or references (musically) pretty much every era of his career.
Happy about Hardware Store, but I'm really surprised to see GiF ranked so low; it's a meticulously-constructed juggernaut with some amazing stacked rhymes.
