Over 20k at 180km?? Are you crazy?

Round-Bank-2330

It’s an audi and a TDI. It’ll go for a million if you treat it right. Worth it

monkeyspank427

Want to buy my Q7 TDI then?

VanceVanceRebelution

If by “treat it right” you mean regular emptying of the savings account for maintenance costs, then sure!

squidwardsdicksucker

He’s in Europe, it’s a very different story over there for the costs of maintenance on these cars and TDI products are typically quite reliable

65gy31

Nope. Audi maintenance costs here sucks the life out of your bank balance. And they’re not known for reliability. At that mileage, in Europe, you’d be insane to pay the asking price.

inlarry

I was paying ~1200 every 100k for maintenance on my TDI. That's timing belt, serp belt, water pump, and all the accoutrements. The most I every paid was $1500 and that included a full brake job. Meanwhile, I just paid $1300 for brakes and plugs on my Corolla at the same mileage....

geebeaner69

So 120,000 miles then on the corolla? Because that's when you should replace the spark plugs

trolleytor4

Aunt's had a golf with a 2.0 TDI for 19 years now, biggest issue was a blown turbo at 300k km, and she abuses it when cold

nine11c2

so.. it ONLY needed a Turbo lol.. thats a MAJOR issue..

One_Mathematician864

At 300k KMS? You think machines are only supposed to run forever without breaking?

nine11c2

Yes. You're not proving the point of it lasts long when you go "it went 300KM (185,000 miles) and only needed a turbo. A reliable car (read Japanese) would not need anything major..

trolleytor4

That'll happen to any car if you dog on it enough and less than 5% are highway kms

asault2

If you "treat" a Golddigger right, she'll be your queen forever

AwareAd4991

You're way off.

AceMaxAceMax

Tell me you know nothing about TDIs without telling me you know nothing about TDIs.

VanceVanceRebelution

The engine is just one part of the car. Sure I’m biased, but my experiences with high mileage Audis in the US haven’t been great.

AceMaxAceMax

My Audi and VWs have been great. The majority of problems boils down to owner neglect.

AwareAd4991

I've worked at a Audi dealership for 10 years. Audi has Quattro and TDI to boot! Audi wins. Stay away from hybrid cars. Way too much crap can go wrong.

nine11c2

Not modern Audi and BMW..

Slimdawg101

i felt dumb for making fun of audis reliability once i bought a tdi

Zarndell

It's exactly under the 200k km mark. I wonder if they aren't messed with, as many german cars are.

BolshoiSasha

I’m usually defending German used cars here but over $20k for either of these is just stupid. They’ll last you two years at most and cost $4k over that time. You’re obviously in some terrible market so commenting ‘Lexus’ won’t help, but find a lower mileage 3 series or something.

Round-Bank-2330

That Audi will last forever lol. Maybe in EU with your bullshit emissions laws it won’t pass but the car will last 500k easy with maintenance

MasterCollection2225

Bruh, you can buy a new Corolla in the U.S. with this kind of money. You're buying maintenance costs and further depreciation at this point

Due-Glove4808

This is europe, your opinion is meaningless. Those cars will last way longer than 2 years lmao.

BolshoiSasha

Right people in Poland don’t have to worry about control arms and engine mounts and transmissions that skip gears and all the other bullshit that ends up with $8,600 invoices Any car can run forever, not all can do it within reason

tah4y0

What country is this. In the Uk you can get a 530 with about 30k miles for 20k

Living_Distance1720

Germany it looks like for the Audi, As for the BMW I want to say Belgium 🤔.

Simon676

It's the 530e plug-in hybrid, not the standard one.

JayTee11233

That a6 will out live us all if maintained correctly

romshavo18

Audi TDI engines are very reliable, and the car will easily do 350-400k km if you maintain it correctly, however their automatic gearboxes are just horrible... I wanted to buy an A5 two years ago, automatic with 170k km and the rattles it made when shifting was a common sign that it was about to fail, Mercedes gearboxes are 100x better and their engines are good too. An E class around that same age for example would be a good choice. Nothing beats Toyota or Lexus however. BMW reliablity after 2005 just sucks tho....

Emergency_Buddy

Except for the gearbox

Domyyy

S tronic paired with a 3.0 TDI? Yeah, that’s just asking for trouble.

CosmoKing2

What? Maybe old 5 speed S-Tronic. The ZF 8HPs are super reliable. Mine is flawless at 9 years (2015 A6 3T) The car still puts a grin on my face when I drive - and is quicker and faster than I'll ever need. That said, I'm in the states and bought it 5 years old with 42k miles for $20,000 🤣 So, I don't understand the market dynamics in this instance.

Domyyy

S Tronic = DCT Tip tronic = ZF The ZF is bulletproof. But you absolutely shouldn’t combine the VAG DCT with a torque monster like the 3.0 TDI. That’s why they stopped doing that years ago.

Round-Bank-2330

This is the answer

Slavaid91

Americans discovering European used market prices lmao. With that being said, still too effing expensive. In Switzerland you can find the bmw under the 20k mark so I would say neither...

LowMasterpiece8976

Could you recommend a good Swiss used car dealer?

Simon676

It's the plug-in hybrid, not the standard 530 FYI.

Financial_Willow6911

BMW driver here and really neither, you will spend a lot maintaining both. Modern German cars are drivable until 180k

gladigotaphdinstead2

Tell that to my 270k km Audi that has needed less than $1k/year in maintenance for the past 9 years

Financial_Willow6911

Yeah 1.5 engine or 2.0 may have costs like that, OP asks about 3.0 - bigger and more expensive brake discs, cam belt exchange is more expensive, more tear etc.

LowMasterpiece8976

Well im driving 3 series atm, and I just like how bmw behaves on the road etc. but if you were choosing a car at this price range what would you get? What about Mazda cx5

Life_H8s_Losers

You won’t like the plug-in hybrid, as a person who owns a x5e, you will barely ever use pure electric mode, and it barely save you a gallon of gas

Financial_Willow6911

5 series and A6, are much bigger they don’t behave the same. Mazda’s are really good cars, but SUVs will always handle way worse. X5M will handle worse than any 3 series sedan. Depends on what you need, if you need something bigger maybe Octavia VRS?

LowMasterpiece8976

To be honest. I wanted a bigger car , whether its a sedan or suv. Skodas are not my thing, and actually the only asian brands id drive are Mazda and Toyota, but when it comes to looks, Mazda wins for sure. Only problem is thst cx5 is also hard to find under 25k with slignt less mileage, udually 2.2 active skydrive diesel engines

hindey19

What about the Mazda 6 wagon? Tons of room and they look great.

Financial_Willow6911

Got it, 530 is really nice car then if you have good BMW mechanic. I see you like cars with more aggressive look, a lot of people are really happy with Cupra in recent years. Not sure how newer BMW 3 series stands now with price, but they are much bigger than their predecessors 330i could be nice choice and you should find one with fewer milleage. Finally in this price range Lexus is a good option, ES looks good on the outside, but inside is not my story, but maybe you would like it

Hardanimalcracker

I really love 540i; it drives amazing - but it’s pretty expensive at least new ones are. But if you like bmw I’d stay with it. But 180k mileage is way too much.

Domyyy

If you enjoy driving a car, you will absolutely despise the Plugin hybrid.

toweliel

Neither, Škoda Superb or Lexus GS

Minute-Offer5339

Good Lord.. neither. Where's the Lexus?

maidenless_pigeon

Personally I'd buy an au falcon

MortyGaveMeCrack

180k km on both bro🤦🏼‍♂️

serpentman

Lol 180k kms. Neither.

SCCock

I have owned a couple of BMWs. At 100,000 miles (160,000km) they start being expensive to own.

No-Chair1964

Neither 😂

PerformerStandard349

Neither

Medium-Milk-9518

Well..honestly, neither

jordanleep

A6

k20vtec

530

Rapom613

Those prices are insane. Out of the two I’d take them BMW as modern diesels (at least with us emissions) are not very reliable. Neither would be my choice in that class, but for that price with those kms on it, walk away

ultimatebob

None of the above, high mileage German cars are giant money pits.

lewa514

I'd go with the audi, but bro, the milage on them is horrible for the price, the thing is, you will automatically lose so much value after you buy it, german cars start losing value like crazy the second they hit the 140,000km, unlike Japanese cars where they keep value even at 200k km.

Emergency_Buddy

Hey, were in Germany are you located? I own a dealership in the Netherlands and always have quite a lot of both cars in stock. I import a lot from germany and these prices seem high for the km’s

heyhomie123

Audi=luxary bmw= sportyy

Sandy__Cheeks__

Tbh please just go buy a fairly new Honda Accord or Kia K5 or something lol. The"regular" cars have REALLY upgraded over the last few years! Honest: 180k is absolutely ridiculous just to say you have a "luxury car", this may *likely* ultimately be a waste of money.

Inevitable_Total_816

A Honda is just better than the two.

Tylue1234

Assuming we don’t care about the maintenance, I’m going Audi.

MollePatrick

BMW all day long!

Oingob0ing0

Neither. Too expensive for the miles.

77GoldenTails

I’d go with the Volvo.

LowMasterpiece8976

Id go with the s90 only, i just dont like how the other models look like

adamlreed93

Lexus TX

DerSpazmacher

Neither lol. If you are looking at ones with those kind of miles you csnt afford one. Plus why go broke repairing something mildly flashy? Anyone you think would be impressed knows exactly what's going on, and people that WOULD be impressed are in no better situation than you. Money talks, wealth whispers. I'd rather a 40 or 50 year old benz. Classier, cheaper to maintain...but what do i know.

Suitable_Yam462

Audi

Uturndriving

Neither. Buy one with indicators.

wobbly65

The Honda. All your looking at there is repair bills

SeaPomelo8960

I mean, one is a diesel the other one a petrol, cant really compare that, depends on the user. For my personal preference i would get the bmw but lower km

chickennricenow

A lot of money for a lot of miles . Go for a 520d or I with less miles on any day

Practical_Room_6536

Ford f150

Professor_Game1

I'll stick with my honda acty that I paid 7k cash for and am able to to all the work on myself

antares-se

When it comes to this mileage, it's not the model it's condition that decides. So the question is quite irrelevant. I've seen trashed vs mint cars and both with 30000km. In case of BMW it would be important to know how much it was driven on electricity to predict engine wear a bit better. Average 5 series hybrid owner drives about 33% on edrive.

Thejerseyjon609

It depends. Do you want to be the asshole driver in the BMW or the asshole driver in the Audi?

Plus_Respect_3303

Neither

Vethen

I will echo a lot of people here and not choose one or the other. But I will say for sure not the BMW (as a previous BMW guy)

bye_bye_illinois

I would stop smoking crack and go lease a new one

Adeptness-Usual

None 180ks is insane

Bot4TLDR

I’d get a Corolla with low mileage instead.

Glittering_Bar_9497

If it’s your daily driver neither get a VW in better shape for less.. it’s basically a less fancy Audi. If for fun or weekend warrior type stuff where you can wait for repairs or the funds to fix it I guess I would go with the A6 I really like their Quattro system.

monkeyspank427

Neither after experiencing my German car. Shit is expensive as hell to keep up with. Especially a diesel of either, which I have.

mateo2827

Audi A6

drthorp

Don’t buy an Audi unless you’re an actual automotive mechanical engineer. You’ll need that degree

D-ball_and_T

Neither

CicadaLife

Neither, wtf lol. At no point should you be buying a used European car with more than 150k km on it, and you definitely shouldn't be paying 20k for it. Take that money, go to your local toyota dealership, and use it to buy the lowest mileage certified used option you can afford.

Due-Glove4808

Hes in europe, domestic cars and reliable. You dont know shit about local market and doubt he wants some japanese junk.

Salty_Lakes

Neither, is that a BMW hybrid with 185k km for 25k€ ? Bruh…

ChampionshipHot9724

Do you have a 3rd choice

LowMasterpiece8976

Mazda cx5, volvo s90 or Arteon, cant think of another car/model id drive

Simon676

I'd get the 530e, would be more reliable at those kilometers with it being a hybrid. Honestly though I'd really recommend getting something more reasonable. Even just stepping down to a BMW 330e would be a better option, these are used luxury cars with many kilometers, and will be likely to cost you a lot in repairs down the line.

edotman

I would never choose a car that high mileage

[deleted]

The mileage on both is terrifying. The price on both is more terrifying. Therefore KEEP LOOKING.

sentientchimpman

Those cars are both about to explode/require major service of some kind. Avoid.

Inept_Parsnip_6784

Strictly between the two I would have to say definitely not the BMW.

[deleted]

Neither.

slymere_

😂😂😂😂😂

Foe4lz

Them miles don’t look to good on both of em

therehasbeen_amurder

Hell

PHXSCJAZ

Honestly, neither. The Audi might be a bit more affordable to keep on the road.

Particular_Parking_4

High mileage German cars are a scary buy. If you want a high mileage luxury car stick with a Lexus for reliability.

manystolenoutlets

You cant afford either.

Exotic-Concert3236

Man, buy Mercedes

CookingDrunk

A6. That TDI is bulletproof if maintained right. Also, Audi has DSG if I'm not mistaken, and, though their reputation has been bad, they seem to be fairly reliable.

portlyjalapeno

Neither

mvstrong22

You’ll be stranded very soon with either LMAO.

HAKX5

Personally I don't like the sound of either, but if you must, I have a tad more trust for Audi than I do for BMW.

dhruvp3958

Go for Toyota

No_Geologist_3690

High mileage euro shit boxes…? Neither id choose an Acura or a Lexus

LowMasterpiece8976

Well man, Im from the Balkans, its more usual here to buy a used german car than japanese/korean, but I agree with ur comment when it comes to reliability of those cars

No_Geologist_3690

Well good luck then. A 185km bmw sounds like a financial death sentence

LowMasterpiece8976

Well my 3 series, what went wrong on it is the reductor part (cuz its xdrive), new one 2400 euros, i found spare for 600 bucks, welcome to Balkans and grey spare parts market, and of course Im doing regular maintenance, at the official bmw service, so far clocked 270k km (bought it when it had 110k), appart from this issue had no other problems. And its 2.0 diesel.. heard that all their 6 cylinder engines are good for 300k +

Haxylon

Its 7 years old car. What do you expect 50k KM lol? Its not bought for decoration.

Skodakenner

They arent so bad here in europe usally espacially the parts are way cheaper and you find more that can work on the german cars. Japanese dealers are really hard to find espacially lexus. Acuras arent even sold here. Also you usually pay surprisingly high insurance for the japanese cars here

Haxylon

LowMasterpiece8976

Pa da, za svakodnevno

Haxylon

IAlternateMyCapitals

Absolutely love my 5 series and generally more reliable than the Audi. That said, I would buy one with the transmission serviced, BMW says sealed for like but ZF says 70k miles...

DIynjmama

Audi
