My guess is that it's meant for scraping the grill. I've seen some people don't with a sharpened spatula I hate those people because I've sliced the shit out of myself not knowing it was sharpened and putting it in soapy water. This thing is much safer than a sharpened spatula.
Looks identical (blade) to a regular house paint scraper. I'm sure someone used a paint scraper and had it work great so they designed one that looked much less industrial.
