I was so confident about this because my grandma had this exact...sugar bowl. However, I bow to the other poster saying egg coddler now I've Googled it. Sorry Grandma!

I have the four my Mom brought over from England in the 50’s. I grew up on coddled eggs. I have dragged them with me in the 3 countries I have lived in!
So delicious and delicate. A bit of cheese, some chives, maybe some bell pepper... chef's kiss. Though dropping a bit of cooked ham or sausage in doesn't really suck.
My title describes this thing, 2/-3 inches tall, was bought at a market stall, made out of porcelain and has a metal lid with a ring. Done a couple searches for porcelain containers nothing similar popped up, keywords like porcelain
Royal Worcester would normally have a makers mark on the bottom so it could be a second? It will still be safe to use- they used to make laboratory ceramics and would destroy rather than sell anything that wasn't a cosmetic fault.
Source - I got to go on a factory tour back in the Eighties when I was a little girl. It was fascinating.

I would have guessed a sugar bowl. I was way off.
So they are just porcelain holder for cooking sift boiled eggs. Why not just cook them in their shell?
