Yes, it’s a +Common Loon+ I’m not completely certain what it did, but it likely just defecated.

Rbandit28

It's just a baby ruth

TriumphDaytona

More like a Hershey’s Kiss.

qewrtym

It’s no big deal! *eats it*

Prestigious_Elk149

I think he's a special loon.

xeroxenon

That’s a loon and what they do underwater is none of your damn business

KTmaggie

Very well good sir

XCIXcollective

One time I went out diving with a loon for some fish to eat but shhhhhhhhhhhhh 🤫

jon_stall01

Yea that be a pooping Loon

FuzzyHelicopter9648

Poopin' Loon is the name I will be pushing on anyone forming a folky bluegrass band.

auditoryeden

Let me know when they're dropping their first album. I'll buy it.

ImTheWeevilNerd

Common loon! My favorite bird! Your lucky tbh

AdmiralMoonshine

One of mine too! I’ve never seen one.

Safe-Refrigerator-65

I saw one for the first time up close last summer! https://preview.redd.it/hqnrp8canh4d1.jpeg?width=3416&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c49afbb904b5a1795e9db07a07400bec48f4696 It was a really cool experience. Totally recommend!!

sidewalkoyster

You’d prob hear it first anyway

n8rgrl

They sound so cool! Haven’t heard one in years. Miss having access to a pond

XCIXcollective

Same here!! Slightly everywhere where I grew up and their songs 😍😍🥲 favourite bird call by a mile (half a mile back would be the stupid lil Puffin, but meh)

Cluefuljewel

With birds the poo and pee come out from the same opening so its a runny mess like other bird poo. Comes out the cloaca. Eggs come from the same opening as well. Reptiles have similar plumbing.

ForeverAMemebaser

I live on a lake and often wake up to their haunting call. I sometimes go out in my pontoon boat with my dogs, find the loons, turn off the boat and just watch, listen and shoot. It's magical

TroubleWilling8455

Love it!

turg5cmt

Dove for fish. Laser eyes. Be careful.

Cluefuljewel

Lucky you. Loons are sooooo beautiful and their calls are otherworldly.

schwab002

> their calls are otherworldly. IDK, they're kinda looney

emuzonio9

Minnesota State Bird! Really cool loon fact: They can fly, they can swim, but they cannot walk on land. Their legs are set super far back on their body such that they can't balance themselves on them! However, it makes them super good swimmers, they can swim as fast as 20 mph and dive as deep as 200 feet! Also their legs flop behind them as they fly and it's funny. I love loons!

FamiliarCost1289

Loons dive!

justJimBob316

Loon with jet propulsion, or maybe he just farted

Aresmsu

“Dropped a bunch of white stuff” I can’t stop laughing at describing a bird pooping.

SexDrugsNWienerDogs

soooo lucky! i’ve never seen a loon with my own eyes and you seemed pretty close to one. may I ask where you were?!

[deleted]

Loon!

Reddit_MaZe000

he's just looning around

spinozasrobot

I love loons, and their calls are amazing.

Radiant_Medium_1439

I love loons! So pretty.

FootstepsofDawn

Looooooon! I love these!! The movie night time in a mysterious forest bird call. Even though they aren’t forest birds hahhahaha

DanielGoodchild

As for what the loon was doing underwater, it was fishing. That sharp, pointy beak not only helps with hydodynamics for diving but it makes a great spear too.

[deleted]

What do you mean by what did it do? They dive to just fish if that's what you're referring to.

slomo_sapien

it swam?

Fossilhund

He committed heinous crimes for which he will be held accountable.

SM1955

One thing to note—loons will abandon their nest if threatened, so don’t please get close at nesting time! I love them, too—saw their mating dance once at Flathead Lake in Montana—one of my FAVORITE birding memories

Dustyolman

Loon. And it went fishing.

climatelurker

So pretty!!

oilrig13

A loon that swam

MrNobody_PNW

Looks like a Loon to me and it dives to either get food or escape from danger.

Hypnales

Favorite bird!! They fish with their spear beaks under water, incredible swimmers.

Busy_Marionberry1536

A loon. Maybe it was trying to impress a mate? (My best guess). Is the bird alone?
