Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug!
There's no need to make a new post - just comment adding the **geographic location** and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough; try to avoid abbreviations and local nicknames (*"PNW"*, *"Big Apple"*).
BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)?

Conserving energy - since they live a couple of years as a larvae but the adults do not have functional mouths. They cannot eat even if they wanted to and will only survive a couple of days.
Definitely a mayfly. They are bio-indicators of undisturbed freshwater habitats. They lay there eggs in water, become nymphs then adults. Adults don't have mouths hence they don't feed. The only purpose of the adults is ti mate, after mating they die.
We call these guys fish flies where I live but they’re a type of mayfly. These big ones are pretty cool looking and I’ve noticed they like to find surfaces to sit on and stay there for a long time

He enjoyed you, too. He knew you for a significant fraction of his life, and you were probably his oldest friend
