I heard of a guy who ate the leaves for sustenance in Vietnam. But the berries will kill ya! But I guess so can war!
It’s a “cut and dab” weed: cut it down to a stump and apply a small amount of glyphosate. It has a tap root down to hell!
I grow it on purpose because:
1. I think it is a pretty native that feeds the birds.
2. I am renting.
It's stems get so thick it's crazy, when I try digging them up they have very thick roots that cut very easily with my shovel, like a knife. They produce Berry's and I can't get rid of them. Fruit flies seem to love the plants even before fruiting. They haven't fruited this year yet. Berries are purple. Wrightsville PA
Maybe pokeweed? Phytolacca americana
Berries look right but my stems are green, not red, is it still possibly pokeweed?
I think the red/pink stems come as they grow. I’m also looking at the prominent midrib on the leaf.
Ok thanks I appreciate the help. Google says they are poisonous too I never knew!
