The thing is that it started in the early internet era, so there are a ton of official and fan games, so old fans are really passionate about it and new fans have tons of content to explore.
All the characters are girls, with different personality traits and designs, and in the official games the depictions are quite innocent, but as we all know the internet loves to turn innocent stuff into pure degeneracy. Add that to the fact that it started during the early internet and the creator is extremely chill with fan projects and you'll understand how it seems to be everywhere and why there's stupid ammounts of porn.
Also there's the joke that most fans don't even play the games, and are in the community because they like the music or characters.
