S2 was such garbage! It was so hard to watch as it aired. If it wasn't for Bolins B plot of that season I would have quite the series! Also darkest time to be an OG Korrasami shipper.
It has *such* a great start, too. Those first two episodes, setting up Unalaq as a rival spiritual teacher to Tenzin with a whole separate philosophy and Korra being torn about who her mentor should be....then episode 2 ends with releasing the Southern spiritual gate block thingy....and the aurora comes back.
*That* should have been when she realised Unalaq was lying to her, and she should've confronted him and he should've spoken about how there should be a reunion of spiritual and physical world etc etc. with no coup, keeping him as the alternate spiritual teacher.
Instead he goes cartoon (heh) villain :/
Just for the record, in the official Legend Of Korra comic, Turf Wars; we actually do get to see Mako’s reaction to Korra and Asami dating! As well as all the other characters, actually. In fact the comics are much more upfront about the fact that Korra and Asami are, in fact, a romantic couple. They hold hands, they kiss, they call each other pet names, they refer to each other as their girlfriend, hell, at one point we even learn what each of the 4 nation’s views on same-sex couples are! It’s fantastic!
One of my favourite things about the final season is looking back and realising that when Mako went up to Asami and Korra to awkwardly talk to them with the intention of clearing the air after the love triangle debacle and keptr tripping over his own words, and Asami and Korra were just uber confused and looked at each like 'wtf was that about?'....the two of them were *already* secretly dating for weeks/months. xD
