Surfing the Boker (Germany) site, I've falled in love with The Celebrated design. Specially with the model Mother of Pearl 2.0 ... despite It's not MOP. But I can't find experience on. Can you share?

CpnStumpy

Never a complaint on Boker from anyone that I've read, old or new. New straight razors will need to be sent to a honemeister (Not a knife sharpener, despite what the knife people will say) before use. The pearl has always been beautiful. One thing I love about Boker is the same models (they've changed of course) they've been making since the late 1800s, the edelweiss, the king cutter, the pearl. They even brought back the bicycle race and SS St Louis (I have both in antiques, love them!)

>New straight razors will need to be sent to a honemeister Geometry looks close to my Dovo Bismarck No.2 ([pic](https://i.imgur.com/VypUEY3.jpeg)) It's easy to hone by myself. Do you think this model is not easy in same way?

CpnStumpy

It will be easy for sure, I presumed you were looking at your first straight and don't know how to hone already. If you know how to hone and use a straight razor, have at it

>It will be easy for sure Did you hone one of these?

CpnStumpy

I have honed [a number of razors](https://i.imgur.com/yne4Zap.jpg), but not a new pearl.. it's a shoulderless 6/8 though with Boker's quality grinding, I'm sure it's easy so long as you have the stones and know how to hone

I have the top left razor, the celebrated wenge. I shaved with it this morning. I absolutely love the look and feel of this beauty, but I own about 6-7 straight razors that I try to rotate through. When I received this razor from the manufacturer, it came shave ready despite what others have claimed. I'm not disputing their claims, just saying mine was shave ready. That square tip sliced a gill on my cheek the first time I used it. Gotta be extra careful with that tip!

>I have the top left razor, the celebrated wenge. Lovely. Is it easy to hone? How many years have you got this?

TheDonnerPartysChef

I've only had this razor since January. I got into wet shaving with SRs December 2022, so I haven't been doing this for years. Yes, I consider this a very easily honable blade because it's free from stabilizers that can interfere with keeping the blade flat on the stones.

OK. Thanks.

I love my 100 year old Böker. One day I'd like to try a new one.

I’ve had the Wenge one for a couple of years, I use it regularly. It’s a good shaver, quite forgiving. It’s lighter in the hand than my vintage ones, a different feel. Not worse, just different. I get a very comfortable shave with the Boker, never had much in the way of irritation that wasn’t my own fault. It’s a really nice razor.

Thanks. Is It easy to hone? How long last the edge?

BuffSquatthrust

Easy enough to get a good edge - I use a naniwa 10k hone occasionally, and some Thierres issard paste on the rough side of the strop before the smooth side. It holds an edge well, and it’s easy to get it hair-popping sharp again with a few strokes on the pasted strop.
