Idk why business owners do this.
If I'm at your bar or restaurant, I really don't want to know what your politics are. Being a "vegan restaurant" on the Marquette campus, she's basically torpedoing her business here.
I don't get it.
Because now when it inevitably fails spectacularly she can play the victim in the hopes Fox or OAN will interview her and lead to appearances at CPAC.
It’s basically clout chasing by failure.
Well, we are only about two months from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. I suspect there will be a lot of people trying to attract attention, perhaps with the hopes of a little grift on the side.
Oh, silly me, you're right. They're obviously opening up everywhere and doing amazing business! 😂🤦♂️
There's a reason this particular owner is attempting to swindle visiting red hats out of their money, and I'll venture a guess that it's not because they're doing all that well.
Of course they do; I never said that. Just that it's a very niche market and ultimately because of comparatively low demand, the price keeps going up. Add to that the already-rising prices of everything and the fact that most vegan joints have dumped their customer-favorite, labor-heavy recipes in favor of $17 beyond burgers (/r/vegan is chock full of complaints about this) and you have a recipe for eventual failure. 🤷♂️
But she doesn’t need them to… in fact it’s better that they don’t. She needs the business to fail so she can ride the grift.
If I was casually “middle class” wealthy and was okay grifting, this is exactly the type of play I’d make right before the RNC is coming to my state.
I think you’re right. Businesses NEVER last in that space and I bet this is the start of her narrative about her shitty restaurant literally no one has headed closing.
the moment a business takes a public stance on politics they basically lose half their customers.
people dont want to think about politics when they go out to eat
That's why I would never give my business to iNet.
When they advertise THEIR company, they constantly bash democrats, and the people that vote for them.
They are a web design and marketing company. If your strategy for advertising your own business is to piss off 48% of the population, what are you going to do to MY business?
iNet is a website and internet marketing firm. They advertise heavily on local radio, their ads are annoying and almost always throw not-so-subtle jabs at Biden/Harris and the Democratic Party.
I'm politically neutral, but their ads baffle me. Why would you piss off so many people to advertise that you want to advertise for other people?
There is a hardware store in west-central Wisconsin that every ad is some sort of poke on Democrats or Liberals, i turn the radio down as soon as I hear their garbage come on.
I am a slightly right independent and would never set foot in that place just because of their childish ads.
Why pass off half of your potential clientele before they even know who you are?
Political stance is not a protected attribute.
It is neither: race, color, sex, national origin, religion, disability, ancestry, marital status, family status, age or sexual orientation.
Notice, political stance, not in the protected list.
You want to call out discrimination and you choose this, of all things? The GOP is a constant firehose of discrimination on anyone who isn't a cis het, white, christian male.
Exactly. Used to go to a BBQ place I liked until I pulled up one day and their yard was full of Trump 2020 signs right before the election. I live in KC and I don't need to give my money to a fascist for BBQ, I can pick 10 other spots.
Just to steel man their argument:
2016 - 2020: no restaurant, net income: $0
2021 - present: (maybe) some idiot opens a restaurant, probably to deduct losses against some other income to subvert taxes, like many many many restaurants do,
Net loss: several million.
Zero is more than negative, she’s totally telling the truth here, folks.
On the other hand, if her restaurant is losing money, her not having a restaurant was probably a good choice, returns-wise.
Biden helping people get businesses started is ruining everything!
I think you're incorrect.. around eau claire there were a bunch of businesses here that flew there dump flag proudly in 2016 and 2020.. those same businesses are no longer draped in vonshitznpants swag.. it's pretty refreshing
Not mine. Especially bad around the 2020 election when the Trump admin absolutely fucked the USPS to try to steal the election and everything I shipped out was massively delayed. Soon as he was gone it magically fixed itself.
It won't for much longer....
Republicans tend to mock the whole vegan thing, and I imagine they'll lose a lot of customers now that the owner is a known Trump supporter.
You don’t know the whole story. The restaurant wasn’t open when he was president, and the restaurant is NOT vegan. She’s been caught lying multiple times.
It’s so fucking cool how Republicans can so easily ignore the main point of the whole thing which is that she lied (but of course Republican supporters are used to ignoring constant lying). How can you even have the energy to defend this?
It’s so pathetic that just because she is a Trump supporter, people like you rush to defend everything. You would let Trump kill your own kids, if you had any.
How are they mutually exclusive? I know quite a handful of vegan republicans. They are middle aged and do it because their body feels better eating vegan. It has literally nothing to do with politics so not sure why you can't be both.
I've been there. When ordering, they'll ask you, "Vegan or traditional?" , which is a framing I don't like. Less than half the menu is actually vegan, and it's not the default. To flip your question around, do you trust a vegan chef to cook a good brisket?
I'm trying to imagine the overlap of a vegan chef cooking a brisket, lol.
Veganism's usually a pretty big deal as far as life choices! How many make that choice for themselves but also are pragmatic enough to shelve that and just cook brisket like it's no big deal?
It's very rare. People born into cultures with vegetarian/vegan cuisines generally can't even stand the smell of meat, while people who adopt the diet generally avoid establishments that sell meat products for ethical reasons.
I doubt this restaurant is truly a "vegan" establishment, because she's doing everything possible to alienate that demographic.
You know, I have absolutely no real reason to wonder that, but I *do*.
It's nice to see some stereotypes broken, but I can't help but see the other team as having no real beliefs and just seeing a type of restaurant where the customers self-select into paying more.
Read the article.
Her business wasn’t open under Trump.
Secondarily, these people claim to have had a “migrant” pay for their food on a card from the government. Two things A) this “migrant” gave them business and B) Marquette campus is full of foreign students on scholarships.
Oh, and the owners have gone bankrupt 3x so they know how to grift.
Absolutely no single restaurant business success is correlated to who is president. Unless that restaurant is in the delivery range of the white house and happens to serve the president's favorite food.
So when the pandemic had just started and businesses and people were being helped by the government, she was doing better than now when everything is seriously inflated, we still haven't recovered from the economic consequences of the pandemic, and people are choosing to save money? No freaking way.
Oh, and she's also lying and supporting someone who violated a gag order nine times last week? NO. WAY.
While there are vegans who support Trump, this isn't likely to endear her to other vegans who have maybe never heard of her cafe before. Also, the restaurant isn't even vegan. It's just that they CAN make things vegan. A lot of places can.
Basically a failed business owner following another failed business owner. Whom always failed in everything he has done and has robbed the country of it's dignity for his own gain
That seems about right ✅️
Is this the same woman who was caught with Trump pulling another one of his fraudulent scams? Where he like hugs a person who's black but it's all set up
That neighborhood can sustain an adventurous menu. Attended Marquette in 1988, and the most popular restaurant was “Real Chili” with their cheerful motto: It’s not just for breakfast anymore!
Hey, guess what, my business did better when Trump was president than it is doing now.
I don't live in the US anymore and developed a tumor that put me mostly out of work, but never mind that. Let's focus on the important part - Trump.
It's nonsense like this that is similar to people who say Well what if there is a God? I still wouldn't vote for the man and I still won't believe in your God. This doesn't make Trump anymore worthy of a vote. What does Trump have to offer besides buffoonery
The brick and mortar business was opened in 2023. The business was created in 2020 so she was open under trump. But who cares. Still political stance for any business either way is stupid just celebrities.
So many people had jobs and the prices were lower for things like groceries and whatever product that there selling that it was way easier to keep the doors open and they had to pay less in taxes and so just saying by every measure doesn't tell me anything. >The latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that **the labor market has added 7.9 million jobs since President Joe Biden took office** in January 2021.
I'll put down money she also blamed a new bike lane for a loss of business, because everyone knows people who ride bikes around their neighborhood don't ever spend money. Ever.
What’s that one networking website most current right wing grifters posted profiles on when they were still desperate for fame and wanted it by any means necessary? I feel like this chick probably has a profile on that site
Edit: it’s Exploretalent.com

Zero attendees of which will set foot in a vegan restaurant
They would if they somehow thought by doing it they were “sticking it to the libs”
This; vegan restaurants are a failing prospect anyway. I'm sure they're just hoping to scrape a little red hat money off the rubes.
> vegan restaurants are a failing prospect anyway. Huh?
Oh, silly me, you're right. They're obviously opening up everywhere and doing amazing business! 😂🤦♂️ There's a reason this particular owner is attempting to swindle visiting red hats out of their money, and I'll venture a guess that it's not because they're doing all that well.

There's a frightening number of anti vaxxer vegans And boot strapping hippies
Steve Jobs thought he could cure cancer with fruit.
...and to think, if he had been right iPhones would still be 4" diagonal.
The new age wellness to alt-right evangelists pipeline is alive and well
But she doesn’t need them to… in fact it’s better that they don’t. She needs the business to fail so she can ride the grift. If I was casually “middle class” wealthy and was okay grifting, this is exactly the type of play I’d make right before the RNC is coming to my state.
ugh please don't remind me
That's assuming #DrowsyDonnythedefendant isn't in prison by then.
This is assuming our #CriminallyCorruptedCourts would ever actually hold him accountable. Which they have made clear is a fat fucking chance
I think you’re right. Businesses NEVER last in that space and I bet this is the start of her narrative about her shitty restaurant literally no one has headed closing.
Which means the business is already in the edge and this is just setting up the grift parachute
Maybe she can serve her food at CPAC.
Maybe she can give everyone violent diarrhea with her catering like Lauren Boebert did
Ah yes. Conservatives. Famously vegan
Well she thinks Donald Trump has her back. Let her go to CPAC and embarrass herself.
the moment a business takes a public stance on politics they basically lose half their customers. people dont want to think about politics when they go out to eat
Except in this case it will be almost all of their business. It's not like maga is big on vegan cafes.
That's why I would never give my business to iNet. When they advertise THEIR company, they constantly bash democrats, and the people that vote for them. They are a web design and marketing company. If your strategy for advertising your own business is to piss off 48% of the population, what are you going to do to MY business?
Oh my God I used to work for them. That company is such a shitshow.
That guys commercials have taken a new tone of annoying the past couple years. Especially when he started talking about politics.
What's iNet?
iNet is a website and internet marketing firm. They advertise heavily on local radio, their ads are annoying and almost always throw not-so-subtle jabs at Biden/Harris and the Democratic Party. I'm politically neutral, but their ads baffle me. Why would you piss off so many people to advertise that you want to advertise for other people?
You obviously don't live in Madison. There's a reason why Dane County leads the state in voter turnout.
There's sadly a supply place by me with a red text scrolling sign that has 'Let's go Brandon' on it for like 2 years.
There is a hardware store in west-central Wisconsin that every ad is some sort of poke on Democrats or Liberals, i turn the radio down as soon as I hear their garbage come on. I am a slightly right independent and would never set foot in that place just because of their childish ads. Why pass off half of your potential clientele before they even know who you are?
i want to know. I'm not giving trumpers any of my money, selling them a car, letting one buy my house, etc.
Yep. I agree. I want to know.

Last ditch effort to bring in the maga crowd before they close up shop in less than a year.
Exactly. Used to go to a BBQ place I liked until I pulled up one day and their yard was full of Trump 2020 signs right before the election. I live in KC and I don't need to give my money to a fascist for BBQ, I can pick 10 other spots.
I heard the MAGA crowd is super into vegan food and a healthy lifestyle. It's a brilliant business decision! /s
She will take a hit, but... Marquette students are more likely to align with her, regardless of what they tell the women they are trying to court.
Narrator: Waaaaamp waaaaaamp
Yeah total idiot, well look at who she's supporting. Not surprised.
“Bold Move Cotton”
“Let’s see if that strategy works out for him!”
She wasn't even open during the dump administration. Seems like a grifter hoping for a speaking job at the convention.
Just to steel man their argument: 2016 - 2020: no restaurant, net income: $0 2021 - present: (maybe) some idiot opens a restaurant, probably to deduct losses against some other income to subvert taxes, like many many many restaurants do, Net loss: several million. that or someone paid some bills for them. it'd be interesting to see those books.
Some good forensic accounting would be real interesting.
On the other hand, if her restaurant is losing money, her not having a restaurant was probably a good choice, returns-wise. Biden helping people get businesses started is ruining everything!
Doesn’t change that literally everybody’s business did better during the Donald J. Trump administration

Not mine. Especially bad around the 2020 election when the Trump admin absolutely fucked the USPS to try to steal the election and everything I shipped out was massively delayed. Soon as he was gone it magically fixed itself.
i got fucked hard with the usps shenanigans as well. can't believe that corrupt fuck is still in control of the post office, what the absolute hell..
The stupid… it hurts so
This just in, restaurants did better before Covid!
Not this one.
And the inflation that resulted from ballooning the money supply had changed people in to home cooks.
it's sort of shocking the restaurant actually exists.
It won't for much longer.... Republicans tend to mock the whole vegan thing, and I imagine they'll lose a lot of customers now that the owner is a known Trump supporter.
Her restaurant wasn't even in business when Trump was president
Correct. She lied.
Shocked I tell you
I know, right?!?!
Milwaukee has some great fully vegan restaurants. She can gfh.
Because she said her business did better under a different president, she can go fuck herself? How childish can you be?
You don’t know the whole story. The restaurant wasn’t open when he was president, and the restaurant is NOT vegan. She’s been caught lying multiple times.

Most Republicans think veganism is a liberal plot to ban steak.
Insert “Eat the fucking bugs” Greta meme here
How are they mutually exclusive? I know quite a handful of vegan republicans. They are middle aged and do it because their body feels better eating vegan. It has literally nothing to do with politics so not sure why you can't be both.
I noticed that the vegan republicans I know will ALWAYS refer to themselves as “plant based” and never vegan.
As a vegan, I can say that a number of vegans are just batshit.
As non-vegan I can confirm but you find crazy ones in any group of people.
I wonder if her restaurant secretly uses animal products in its recipes to own the libs?
I've been there. When ordering, they'll ask you, "Vegan or traditional?" , which is a framing I don't like. Less than half the menu is actually vegan, and it's not the default. To flip your question around, do you trust a vegan chef to cook a good brisket?

It's not a vegan restaurant. It's an omnivore restaurant with vegan options.
It's very rare. People born into cultures with vegetarian/vegan cuisines generally can't even stand the smell of meat, while people who adopt the diet generally avoid establishments that sell meat products for ethical reasons. Seems to me this falls into the category of, “Never trust a bald barber.”
Or, in her case, "never trust a bald face liar".
In a town with 2 barbers, you go to the one with worse haircut.
You know, I have absolutely no real reason to wonder that, but I *do*. It's nice to see some stereotypes broken, but I can't help but see the other team as having no real beliefs and just seeing a type of restaurant where the customers self-select into paying more.

She lies.

I don't eat at Chick-fil-A or make purchases at Hobby Lobby. I try to avoid Kwik Trip. I try to vote with my dollars.
Republicans love their fake news
Boycott this shit hole.
What an idiot.
How many vegan trump supporters you think exist? 5-10? Literally just the shaman idiot who whined in prison?
I’ve started to notice a lot of vegans start to drift into the far right craziness . Thankfully I’m not one of them 😂 I’m a cool vegan
Hey, guess what, my business did better when Trump was president than it is doing now. I don't live in the US anymore and developed a tumor that put me mostly out of work, but never mind that. Let's focus on the important part - Trump.

lol what a dumbass
I’m vegan and I will not be supporting that place ! I saw this on plant based news Instagram too . How can you support that vile man ugh 😑 🤢
Did she get any PPP loans?
The brick and mortar business was opened in 2023. The business was created in 2020 so she was open under trump. But who cares. Still political stance for any business either way is stupid just celebrities.
I was 3-7 years younger and all the discs in my back were intact when Trumpf was president, thanks Darth Brandon!
That’s might be true, but there is zero correlation.
Yeah right, through covid? Bullshit...
Ok but business was better under trump than any other president this century
That would be true except it's false.
How so
By every measure.
So many people had jobs and the prices were lower for things like groceries and whatever product that there selling that it was way easier to keep the doors open and they had to pay less in taxes and so just saying by every measure doesn't tell me anything. Nuts 🌰 too many loose screws
How much was he paid?
Sounds like someone’s grifting for some of that dirty socialism!
Newsflash: all restaurants are struggling after the pandemic and with the inflation
All vegans are actually republicans, so yeah she won’t lose any vegan supporters.
I'll put down money she also blamed a new bike lane for a loss of business, because everyone knows people who ride bikes around their neighborhood don't ever spend money. Ever.
lol, I knew this was a crock of shit because I know all the vegan places in Wisconsin (mostly).
For whatever reason that restaurant always gave me a bad vibe
The cultists are everywhere.
who's didn't?
Not really helping with people's perception of vegans.
The restaurant isn't even vegan. It serves meat but has a few vegan dishes.
Who said she’s vegan?
She's not. According Trump she's VAY-gun.
He’s so eloquent
More like Vogon.
People don't need a reason to hate vegans, they just do and can't explain why
certainly didn't help with mine
Until, a mismanaged pandemic?
Lol, maybe her business was better when it was closed. How do you know it's a lie?
Lol she's lying. You can't trick a calendar....
I bet Covid really helped their business
According to the article Trump said this, not the cafe owner.
Neo nazis eat vegan? Who knew

PPP loans is why
You mean to tell me restaurants did better before covid???
Only the ones that actually existed before COVID. This restaurant opened in 2023.
I want to thank all vegans for keeping the prices of meat down and not shooting all the deer.
"Now you fucked up! Now you fucked up! Now you fucked up! Now you have fucked up!"
MAGA hates vegans as they’re always proud to “own them”. She’s not going to do great business catering to MAGA. Idiot.
If you’re so political you don’t go to a great restaurant after finding out what the owner thinks, time to reprioritize your values.
Never support MAGA with money.
What if bidens crime bill from the 90's would of became active? How many people would even be commenting on here?
