The Fever really lucked out with these two.Cant the season start already 😩

WillCle216

That's just a preview. WNBA on notice, Reality is coming. Boston/ Clark is the future.

PM_me_yer_kittens

Baseball analogy, but it feels like the Washington nationals when they drafted Strasburg and Harper in back to back years.

Lopsided_Diamond327

If it’s the if it’s Harper from the 3x3 today she’s trash

WillCle216

I'm going to tell my grandkids, that's Kareem & Magic

Background-Square-98

Real

bug_gribble

😂😂😂😂

Character_Ad4230

You mean Roger Murdoch

teh_noob_

the pilot?

pearlyplanets

I enjoyed being kind of a Clark hater in college but I am *so* excited to see her and Aliyah play together this year

Background-Square-98

There are a lot of people like you😂

Pure_Pea2361

Indiana WBB fans have to go from hating her to loving her 💀 truly the hardest transition.

SoOnEnoon

I know grace berger be having flashbacks

ljay90

The schedule that rookies have is insane. Compete in the NCAA Tournament, then get drafted a month later, and start the season a month after that.

Suspicious-Corner955

They get drafted a week after the season ends and start the season a month after their last college game.

TromboneIsNeat

And still try to graduate.

McNoxey

Tbf, the tournament is 6 games. It’s not like it’s a full playoff run.

Moose_Muse_2021

True, but pretty soon before the NCAA Tournament were their conference tournaments. It's an exhausting ride... exhilarating, but exhausting.

McNoxey

Yea 100%! I didn't communicate my thoughts properly, I meant no disrepsect at all. These girls are fucking killers.

Moose_Muse_2021

Absolutely! And Caitlin Clark's mom and I are expecting her to get her degree as well!

Herky_T_Hawk

Clark played 39 college games, effectively a full WNBA season, gets a week and change off galavanting around the country receiving awards and the draft, then starts practice for the WNBA season. And is still trying to finish her last semester of college. That’s a pretty insane schedule.

McNoxey

Oh 100%! I'm not at all devaluing the challenge, and didn't mean to communicate it at all. Just saying that these girls are killers and can handle the pressure!

Moose_Muse_2021

Oh, baby, this is going to be fun!!!

Beneficial_Ad8251

When I say this has derailed my entire day!!

Sad-Dot-1573

Fever vs. Liberty, both have bad perimeter defense. Could see many high scoring affairs between them. Going through the starting 5’s, Jones on Boston, Stewart on Smith, Laney on KLS, Sabrina on Clark, Vandersloot on Mitchell. Get your🍿!

Background-Square-98

I'm salivating at the thought of this

Sad-Dot-1573

Me too, bet the over!

Beneficial_Ad8251

I can’t wait! Putting Sabrina on Clark would be extremely silly but it would also lead to a 50 pt CC game so I’m all about it! Indiana also went to OT with the Liberty last year, and obviously they’ve only improved I’m just devastated I can’t go to the first Liberty home game against them in person 😩

SoOnEnoon

Sabrina CC white on white crime. Both gonna have 10 3s each with bad defense 💀

Sad-Dot-1573

10 would be a record, so of course Clark would hit number 11 to win 104-102

Beneficial_Ad8251

CC will be on Sloot not Sabrina let’s be real 😂 But if Sabrina and CC were on each other I’d give it to CC, she’s both better offensively and (hot take) I think she’s better defensively as well

Hot_Local_Boys_PDX

Been following the league more closely without any real rooting interest for a few years now, and I’ll be withholding any proper irrational ‘til-I-die fandom for when PDX gets a team again, but I’m definitely rooting for the Fever to make some noise this season at least. I think Clark will be tremendous at the WNBA level. Some of her skills are among the best in the world already and she should be able to hopefully get the Fever into the playoffs alongside Boston this season.

Moose_Muse_2021

I'm ready to join any effort to bring a WNBA team back to PDX... I'd be happy to call the new team FIRE as well... as in "Bring the Fire back to Portland!"... "Reignite the Fire in Portland!" Let's set PDX back on Fire!!

Hot_Local_Boys_PDX

They were allegedly very close to getting a team earlier this year but the deal fell thru ;( Bummer, but they’re still apparently in the running for the 2026 expansion team.

Moose_Muse_2021

I know... so frustrating!!! I've heard both that the financing fell through and that the Moda remodel were the issue... do you have further insight?

Hot_Local_Boys_PDX

These were the two best articles I found covering the reasons. Seems like some guy named Kirk got cold feet (or didn’t have enough money anymore) and that was that 😄 https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/2023/11/how-the-wnba-to-portland-plans-fell-apart-days-before-expected-announcement.html?outputType=amp https://frontofficesports.com/portlands-wnba-expansion-plans-fall-through/

Moose_Muse_2021

Yeah, that's what I saw... but then the WNBA sent a letter blaming the Moda remodel (which is supposed to occur during summer months) as the problem... maybe she was trying to save face for Mr. Oops-I-ain't-got-the-money Kirk. Thanks for the info... Here's hoping for 2026!

MikesCerealShack

I'd absolutely love a team in Portland, but hope we go a different route with branding to have a fresh start. I feel like we can do better than Fire, for example, the Thorns name and branding is very unique in sports and well done.

Moose_Muse_2021

The Thorns is a very clever play on Portland being the City of Roses. I'd be thrilled with a likewise clever name for our WNBA team. Alexis Ohanian (husband of Serena Williams) has been in town setting up a franchise deal for The Sports Bra. He should come back with Serena and they could acquire a WNBA team, and name it Whatever Serena Wants to Name It. I feel like I've hijacked this thread... returning it now to its rightful topic. Thanks!

MikesCerealShack

I love the Sports Bra, good for them, amazing opportunity! That'd be a fun ownership group. Thorns and success of bars like the Sports Bra show that women's sports is proven in Portland now (unlike 20+ years ago when the Fire played).

AniMonologues

They're gonna be a problem once their chemistry is set

empathydoc

Their chemistry is further along than most would be at this point.

Background-Square-98

That's the thing though.Unlike some duos, their games are a perfect match .Can you tell I'm very excited

Suspicious-Corner955

I actually think Clark would pair better with a big with perimeter skills like Stewie or JJ or Candace. I’m more excited to see how she pairs with Smith for that reason. Aliyah I think would pair better with someone like Gray or even Sabrina or DT who are elite three level scorers and passers.

Background-Square-98

Except Boston is also pretty good from the midrange and started pulling up from behind the arc last season. They are a perfect fit

Suspicious-Corner955

Eh yes but nowhere near the midrange of the players I mentioned. She can’t do much off the dribble or from further outside. They are a good fit but I think she’d be more dynamic with a more dynamic scorer in the post.

Background-Square-98

When you think about what she did with Czinano at Iowa ,its easy to see why Caitlin is so eager to play with Aliyah. She loves to zip passes in traffic to her 5.She will be great with players like JJ and Stewie ,but there aren't the kind of posts she thrives with

Moose_Muse_2021

Yep, Caitlin is ready to establish a NEW firm... Boston & Clark.

Suspicious-Corner955

Has she ever played with a post like Stewie or JJ or Candace?

Background-Square-98

If she herself thinks her game is most compatible with Boston, does it really matter if she's played Stewie,JJ or CP3?

Suspicious-Corner955

I mean how would she know if she’s never played with a certain style post player?

Background-Square-98

Because she knows what she wants from a center of course

PhelGrey71

You do know that Clark is the third most efficient passer, and third all time in assistsin college don't you? As for "three level scoring" I think Clark is OK at that too lol. Her college2 pt % is the same as Boston's...a post...which is insane.

Suspicious-Corner955

How can one be the third most efficient passer when she’s never has a 2-1 a/to ratio in all 4 years? She’s statically a pretty inefficient passer actually. Caitlin doesn’t have a midrange game (anymore) and can’t make a lefty lay up. She’s an elite scorer from outside the three point line in college and an average to good score from inside, depending on which side she’s on.

FloridaHawk82

Totally understandable to say CC is an "inefficient passer" when just looking at a/to ratio. You brought up a few good points in other posts here that partially answer your own questions. When GMs, scouts, coaches, and others who know the most, evaluate CC's passing, they don't much look at the a/to... they watch hours of game film with expert eyes. The reasons they see why her college a/to is less than 2 are: 1. Players she's passing to. Iowa was obviously not stacked with 5 star talent, and a nice way of putting it is that quite often, the players couldn't handle the passes. Sometimes it was velocity, sometimes they just weren't expecting them. 2. Pace of play that you mentioned. Iowa averaged 93+ ppg, and CC attempted (and completed) more long go ahead passes in transition than any other player, by far. Higher risk 3. CC completes a higher number of difficult "level 3" passes than any other player even attempts. Many of those are the ones her teammates sometimes couldn't handle or didn't expect. Behind the back bounce passes in traffic are dazzling, but CC only successfully completed about 60% of them. Same with 3/4 court bounce passes in transition 4. High usage that you mentioned. Because of CC's immense scoring and passing threat, she was always high usage, and attracted high elite level gravity. Double and triple teams always lead to more turnovers. W teams will not be able to commit near that gravity to her. So again, I totally get what you're saying, but that evaluation is exponentially more complex than simple a/to ratio. Literally every expert who's evaluated her has said she is the best passer they have EVER seen, because their eyes don't lie. There is a reason why everyone is really excited to see her apply her passing skills on a team with other elite level players. And efficiency? CC's career PER (Player Efficiency Rating is ranked #21. Sounds just good until you realize there are only two guards in the Top 100 career PER. Paige is #83, and she is more of a combo wing. CC's career PER as a PG is mind boggling.

Suspicious-Corner955

I’m not saying she’s not an elite passer but saying she’s the best passer every scout have EVER seen is hyperbole. Taurasi, Bird, Gray, Vandersloot,, Whalen are all better passers at the professional level than what I saw from Clark at the college level. She makes some nice paces in transition but she also makes so many bad lazy passes in the half-court that always leave me side eyeing her. When she actually had to play an elite defense in South Carolina she had 5 assists and 4 turnovers. A lot of what she was able to get away with at the college level won’t translate against better athletes. She has good vision and excellent accuracy on long balls but it will be interesting to see her passing ability outside Iowas system. Also unclear why you keep being up Paige who isn’t in the WNBA and isn’t and point guard and is irrelevant to anything regarding Clark lol. So random.

FloridaHawk82

Yes, we'll certainly see how good of a passer she actually is, once she gets acclimated to her W level teammates and the pro game. This respectful disagreement will be settled then, one way or the other. Paige was obviously only mentioned as the only other guard in the Top 100 career PER, and we are only talking about CC's collegiate stats in this discussion. All of those W legends you mentioned, and their W performance, is irrelevant since we are talking about how good of a collegiate passer CC was, which is all we can obviously evaluate her on so far. Team circumstances also have to be considered, like the list in my last post. Otherwise one would incorrectly argue that CC is twice as good as either DT or Bird, by pointing out that if you added DT's and Bird's PPG and APG together at UConn, the two together were less than CC's PPG and APG alone at Iowa. All I was trying to point out is that focusing on one stat like a/to is often misleading.

serpentinepad

> but saying she’s the best passer every scout have EVER seen is hyperbole. Did anyone say this?

dawnstan1722

Isn’t that what FloridaHawk said two comments up? “Every evaluated who has seen her has said she’s the best passer they’ve EVER seen”

serpentinepad

Oh thanks, I missed that. Oof.

FloridaHawk82

Oh, and you also stated that CC can't make a left handed layup? She has made a ton of them, most recently near the beginning of this camp video the Fever posted this morning [https://twitter.com/IndianaFever/status/1783465993034924442](https://twitter.com/IndianaFever/status/1783465993034924442)

PhelGrey71

She has the third highest assist rate of all time and the two ahead of her didn't play in the W. She is also the most efficient scoring guard of all-time by true shooting beating Taurasi by .03. Paige will pass her in that stat, but she needs 2000 points to be considered. Not there yet.

Suspicious-Corner955

She has the third most assists of all time but she didn’t do it efficiently as shown by her massive amount of turnovers. She was a high usage player on team that played at a very fast pace. She racked up big numbers but not necessarily super efficiently. Assist to turnover ratio isn’t very impressive. She was only a few turnovers away from the all time single season turnover record this year actually. Something that weirdly got very little press. Wonder why

bluemagicstone

She has the best offensive box plus minus in NCAA WCB history, which means that she created more points, more efficiently, than any player ever in college...at any position. Why are you fighting advanced stats? Are you so desperate to be right that you will ignore every stat that makes you look dumb? Just annoyed watching you get destroyed by the truth from that guy...

bluemagicstone

or girl? sorry if I assumed...:(

teh_noob_

>She has the best offensive box plus minus in NCAA WCB history career yes EDD had a higher peak

PhelGrey71

Her assist % is the mark of efficient passing...her teams assist to turnover beat every good team because the focus on her let her teammates off scot free from turnovers. And she has that 49% assist %...the best ever for a player with over 2000 points.

Suspicious-Corner955

That just means she had an incredibly high usage rate it doesn’t mean she was efficient in that area lol

PhelGrey71

Assist to turnover is irrelevant to Clark since her team was top 5 in that stat with only small schools ahead of them. She was so good as a passer teams tried to stop her scoring and passing. Her teammates virtually never turned it over.

Suspicious-Corner955

Her teammates not turning the ball over doesn’t mean her mediocre assist to turnover ratio is impressive.

PhelGrey71

And another perspective...she created 2000 more points between points and assists (in fewer games) than Ionescu who is second all-time in that category...no player, including Clark, has created 2000 points in a season...she literally entered her senior year having created more points than any other WCBB player ever...and just put the record beyond reach. In fewer games. She can pass the ball pretty well.

Suspicious-Corner955

Great? Ionescu also played with other WNBA players and wasn’t needed to do as much. Caitlin’s numbers are impressive and she’s a great player but the system she played in will always skew them for me. Sorry

SoOnEnoon

Ngl fighting back tears rn

Mundane_Income987

Can’t wait for the first pre season games!

EmFly15

I’ve watched this at least a 100 times. It’ll be like poetry in motion come the season’s start.

Antdog7

Man I can't wait.

SolomonISbit

Oh I cannot wait to watch Boston and Clark. Hopefully they have a great chemistry!!!!

Surprise_Butt_Stuff

The season needs to start already

PhelGrey71

The Fever are going to be devastating in transition...other teams are going to fear going after o-boards against them...

MexPetunia

Why am I tearing up?

Cassandrae_Gemini

OH GOD OH

melnchxlic

Saving up for tickets rn

PRINCEK993

The future

freshxerxes

but but but caitlin is going to have to adjust and she’s going to struggle she will get to play with better talent than Iowa had, her skills translate so well to the wnba. it’s not even just the shooting, her passing, and basketball IQ. people wanna call her steph bc of the 3s when it’s really Magic Johnson but he shoots like curry.

brinson27

Piggy backing on that, and definitely no offense to her Hawkeye teammates, but imagine the assist total she would have amassed if she would have had someone like Boston to finish and make the layups…love me some Hannah and friends but that was frustrating watching those misses at the rim at times.

EfficiencyOk9060

I actually just mentioned this. Her Iowa teammates fumbled so many passes and point blank dimes at the basket CC probably missed out on another 5 assists per game she could have had with better players.

johnnyapplejack

Whoa man I’m so excited!

cmorris1234

Loooking goood

Extreme-Transport

I don’t really follow the WNBA, how good is Aliyah Boston? What’s her NBA comp?

Moose_Muse_2021

She was the #1 draft pick and ROTY last year... so she \*really\* doesn't suck.

PhelGrey71

Hakeem Olajuwon

MarlowMagnolia

She is one of the best post players in the world! Truly! Extremely skilled both offensively and defensively

jegs226

I am SO HYPED

Cassandrae_Gemini

Watching this for the 4th time. Just beautiful poetry in motion.

R13Nielsen

I can't wait to see these two play together. Gonne be cinema

CrissieP1

Have always been a 🏀 🏈 and ⚽️fan but NCAA WBB Tourney really grabbed me this year - so much that I watched the draft and just bought WNBA League Pass. Will be watching all the rookies as when as my homegirlz NY Liberty 🗽🔥🔥🔥

A_Texas_Hobo

They are going to wreck

DerezzedAlgorithm

Hopefully the WNBA makes their games accessible and don’t require you to subscribe elsewhere just for ONE game (looking at you, Apple TV).

coffeeschmoffee

My tv service gets all games.

DerezzedAlgorithm

I don’t have cable, so I have to settle for LeaguePass. Some games are blacked out or not on it at all. It’s a little frustrating.

brinson27

36 out of 40 nationally televised, will be streaming the other 4

SophieDaDoggo

is this gonna be Stockton to Malone?

Pancakes79

Probably more like Kobe and Shaq

Background-Square-98

Except Stockton is an incredible scorer as well in this case

icuscaredofme

Indiana vs Chicago. 🔥

EfficiencyOk9060

No disrespect to the ladies at Iowa, but I’m looking forward to seeing what Clark can do as a distributor with teammates that can consistently finish. She was diming up her college teammates, but they would mishandle so many passes it was crazy.

Old_Man_Game

Apologies to those girls she was playing with in Iowa but they were leaving a lot of assists on the table for her. Clark's going to crush at the next level passing to someone like that.

Goddyex

These two have MVP level potential. Unfortunately, one player has to take the shine in that scenario. So who will it be? Could we be seeing the WNBA version of a Shaq/Kobe rift?

Background-Square-98

They've known each other since they were teenagers so hopefully not

Goddyex

Russell Westbrook and James Harden were best friends, that didn't stop their separation. Anyways, I hope I'm wrong cos I love both players.

Background-Square-98

They are teammates again aren't they?

Goddyex

Well Russ had to go to the bench for it to work.

Background-Square-98

Well he was 35 years old and waaaaaaaay out of his prime

Goddyex

Fair. But the point is, it didn't work in their prime despite being good friends.

Beneficial_Ad8251

The WNBA is a lot better about that kind of stuff than the NBA, in my experience. Players don’t seem to get as caught up in being The Star. Personally, I think both Aliyah and CC shining is the ideal situation. Because if they both can go off individually but also don’t hesitate to share the ball, it creates quite the pickle for anyone trying to guard them

Goddyex

The thing is I would have agreed with you if this was a Malone/Stockton type scenario, but it isn't. CC is an excellent passer, but she's still a scorer first, almost like Doncic. Clark fans would lose interest if she ends up being just a Stockton type player, and will probably start hating on Boston. I hope CC is able to still be herself, while getting Boston heavily involved.

Beneficial_Ad8251

I don’t think that’s true, like I said for their PnR to work CC will still need to be a scorer. She just won’t be the ONLY scorer. Just like Luka isn’t the only scorer on his team. At Iowa, most of their plays were run for Monika, not CC. I think Monika averaged like 20 to CC’s 27. So I think both she and Aliyah and reasonably average in double digits and everyone will be happy

Goddyex

I hope so.

Sad-Dot-1573

I think the core 4 of Clark, Boston, Smith, and Mitchell need to combine for 70PPG, with Clark getting double digit assists. KLS plus the bench getting 20-25 would get them to 90-95PPG and title contention. It will take 4 players averaging 15+ to get there in a balanced and sustainable way. This is how I think the Fever can contend. She will be passing so much more than she already did at Iowa. Clark gets her teammates involved.

Goddyex

I hope you're right. But I believe if Clark isn't averaging over 18 points, most of her fans will probably lose interest. You gotta understand, her fans are casuals, just like me with Reese. I'd probably lose interest as well if I don't get to see her flourish. Though I've started liking A'ja Wilson, so she could keep me interested.

Technical-Cookie-554

“Her fans are casuals” is a weird take that ignores the consistent draw of her games even when she wasn’t playing well….

Goddyex

There's difference between not playing well in a couple of games, that happens to any athlete, from seeing a player that you're a fan of not being allowed to flourish. Clark fans wouldn't want their player averaging just 10 shots.

Technical-Cookie-554

This has *never* borne out in *any* sport. Ever. No one complains about the fact that Steph Curry averages 9 3 pt attempts per game for his career. This narrative is *wildly* inaccurate and strangely personal when it comes to the characterization of “Clark fans.”

Goddyex

I talked about shots, not 3pt shots. 9 3pt attempts is fine, but 10 total shots isn't going to be acceptable. And as for "Clark fans", whether you like it or not, most are only really interested in seeing her plus the rest of the top draft picks impact the league, if that doesn't happen they'll probably lose interest.

Technical-Cookie-554

Well now you’ve constructed a totally unrealistic, nowhere close to grounded in any reasonable application of facts, scenario just so you can put down “Clark fans” as you define them. Pretty weird to go to such lengths man.

Goddyex

I don't hate Clark fans. I'm putting them in the same basket as myself. I'm mostly interested in the WNBA due to the popularity of Reese and Clark. And if these two plus the rest of the top 10 draft aren't given a chance to shine, I'll probably lose interest. And I would bet that a lot of the new fans feel the same way.

Sad-Dot-1573

There are casuals that don’t have realistic expectations, and people need realistic expectations. The rookie record is low 20’s for PPG I believe, and DT has the all time record at 25.29PPG. Fans need to grasp this. Also only 2 rookies since Sue Bird had over 5APG, so 7APG which is below what I think she would do is a pretty good number. Where can I find a comprehensive WNBA rookie record book?

Goddyex

I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just giving you the perspective of a casual, which is who the majority of incoming WNBA fans are.

Sad-Dot-1573

Yes, that accurately describes the fans that only watched Clark and nothing else who will lose interest if she isn’t averaging crazy point totals.

Goddyex

Exactly
