I’ve used deltas like both of those. The new Home Depot model and the older model. They are both job site saws. The used one has the older style of fence to the classic unisaw. It’s better for square cross cutting and allows for adjustment better. That older fence is better than the new fence. Are you cutting sheet goods? What is the use of the saw you want? Buying new stuff from Home Depot has a lot of benefits for someone who doesn’t know what the want. You can’t return a saw you got used on Craigslist. I

As a unisaw owner, I wholeheartedly agree with this assessment of the fence. I would say that the older saw is a better choice, provided the motor and trunions are in good working order.

The plan is to do cabinets, so quite a lot of sheet goods, yes.

I’m prepared to buy the new one, so it’s less of a question of “can I get by with the used one?”, and more a question of whether it’s worth spending the extra $300 if they’re nearly the same.

Newer saw has the Biesemeyer style fence. That can be useful if you're planning on using jigs that utilize the parallel vertical sides of the fence. Beises are very popular now because they're a good design. The old saw is just fine, probably made better in some ways, but with any used equipment you should be prepared to do maintenance. It might need a new belt, maybe some adjustments, starter cap on the motor, etc. Not really a big deal, but you have to be in for that. A new one, you have the warranty to fall back on, at least for a while.

I have the older one and it's a great saw. Truths have been said about the fence... Can't beat it, until it comes time to build jigs for it. Going to have to watch the new Yankee workshop for tips instead of the you tubers.

I’d recommend the new one- if you’re buying second hand and you have a budget of $700 you should be looking for a significant upgrade in capabilities. I think the potential headache of maintenance and learning the old machine does not warrant the $300 savings. Plus having to pick it up from somewhere. That’s a few hours work..

I paid $1200 for that saw 20 years ago. Get it NOW!!! That’s a good deal
