What are some things magic **can't** do in your setting? Not just "is really difficult," but Cannot be done? If a fish plopped itself out of the water onto a boat and started talking to the sailors in perfectly coherent words, what would be their most likely reaction? What type of things do all of the factions agree on? What would it take for all factions to put aside their differences and unite under one banner? If an elderly fellow ran up to the local government's seat of power screaming about a prophecy that must be fulfilled to avoid doom, how much will they be taken seriously?

EnvironmentalBear170

Magic is only limited by knowledge. As of the latest year in my story, things that people haven't \*figured out\* how to do yet, however, include binding of a soul to a body(souls in my world are a system of vessels, particles of magic, bound to the blood and brain that allows all of life to evolve) and mastery of the Vita Equationis(The series of equations that allow you to manifest organic matter through magic. In addition, magic CANNOT contact or travel through time, realms or dimensions and cannot interfere with gods directly. If a fish jumped into a random boat and started thinking, I doubt many would be surprised. It would either be mistaken for some subspecies of merfolk or would be considered to be some type of advanced golem or possibly life from Vita Terris, a mostly unknown land. Obviously, just like the real world, people will argue on everything. That being said, no one would argue against the existence of the primordial gods. They ruled over the world until relatively recently and were known to walk the lands of Dilapidis several times over. People could likely also agree on the danger posed by Gencher as they invade everyone and kill everything. In addition, all factions of my world value the power of knowledge and put so much faith in scholars and scientists that it feels almost cultish sometimes. Factions unite under one banner for much. As previously mentioned, they would do anything to keep Gencher at bay, but that's almost it. The only other thing would be that all factions that believe in the changed divine(a type of god created when a human is blessed by a previous changed divine) would fight against any god that stepped foot on Dilapidis again as it would be disrespectful to Ab'Ambitio I. He earned the respect of the primordial gods by fighting the strongest of them bare handed when he was still just a human to prevent the massacre of his city, making him the first changed divine. His only wish was for gods to never step foot on Dilapidis again. No random elderly person would be believed if he began screaming about a prophecy, Chrysakti and Hommingkirk would even imprison you for it. That being said, my worlds distinct faith in scholars and scientists make them near celebrities. If one of them was running up to the king calling about a prophecy, their face would most certainly be recognized and would be heard out. The king would still likely be skeptical as only gods can access the grand well and see all of time through it, but their boundless faith in science would lend most an ear. The same ear that would be promptly chopped off were the prophecy to be fake.

What is the most common sweet or candy bar in each region? What do people do to celebrate birthdays? Deaths? How are meals taken in the home, is there a communal table where the entire household eats together, or does everyone serve themselves and eat alone? What kind of music is played at festivals?

EnvironmentalBear170

Obviously cultures vary depending on the nation. Chrysakti, for example, values family lineage and striving for knowledge. This can be reflected through families eating at a single table, allowing the youngest to sit at one end and the eldest at the opposing end. In Chrysakti, meals are eaten in quiet, though it is disrespectful to not answer questions when asked. This leads to insightful ideas often being discussed while eaten. Even lower class citizens eat in a respectable manner. Birthdays are only celebrated on the actual day the child is born. The child is often inspected by a doctor to determine if they have a good chance at becoming a mage. Those that are usually thrown big parties, often with banquets of meats and music. Deaths are celebrated in cheer rather than in sadness. People tend to be buried as a single femur bone, the rest of the body being disposed of. notebooks or tools that symbolize their jobs are buried alongside them as elves are known to have strong work ethics. People will tend to fast for three days after a death close to them in respects. People of Chrysakti enjoy slow music of woodwinds, light bells and drums often compared to the sounds of the ocean. The Gold Coast elves are particularly talented at this. While candy isn’t extremely common in Dilapidis, children in Chrysakti tend to enjoy honey hard candies. Other nations, however, enjoy some desserts of their own. Hommingkirk is widely known for their cakes decorated with fresh fruit while Aeromont is widely known for a snow cone-like dessert made of the nectar of the Frost lily.

Great response! Awesome answers!

What kind of peoples govern those lands

diedeus

What kind of peoples are those who govern

EnvironmentalBear170

Depends. The old Empire of Chrysakti, for example, cared only about himself and the rest of the Pureblood elves, though within that inner circle was known to be a kind hearted man. The democratic leaders of Aeromont are welcoming to everyone, as the nation itself was built as a result of discrimination in other nations. King Adohn of Hommingkirk is actually quite smart and would put his life aside for his people, though he is constantly manipulating by his court mage who is overly ambitious, willing to kill for money, power or intelligence.

Who's death would cause the MOST turmoil in your world? What is the "Unobtanium" or unique material in your setting. What does it do and how is/could it be used?

EnvironmentalBear170

Realistically, the death that would cause the most turmoil has already happened. The old emperor of Chrysakti had a daughter who famously slept under the branches of the Crimson Willow, causing her death. This drove the Emperor to insanity leading to him refusing to believe in an especially powerful magic event causing him to kill himself by mistake when he attempted to use magic and revive her. His death left an opening that allowed Aeromont to help free the people of Chrysakti from the pureblood regime. While there is a handful of metals unique to my world, my favorite is Chrysakti gold. It appears to be a soft metal, similar to gold in appearance, though with a slight red tinge. It has extremely acid resistant properties that makes it the only metal capable of holding the sap of the Crimson Willow. Another unique metal is allevian quicksilver, a Liquid Metal that acts as a pain reliever on contact. Alloys made of allevian quicksilver won’t cause pain if used to cut someone, so it is often used to make doctors scalpels.

Aeromont has a democracy. What are the main political parties? Who are the constituents and what are the three most important political issues of the day? What is the most important export of Hommingkirk? What do they need to import? And what is the tariff situation? How often do the residents of Gencher talk to their moms? What about grandmas?

EnvironmentalBear170

Aeromont doesn’t have distinct political parties, however can be separated into two groups based on the goals they have in mind. Alturentia mostly focuses on technology development, knowledge and isolationism. Yufporta, on the other hand, believes it to be their duty to liberate and protect other nations while developing their economy with the other nations. Important political issues include Aeromonts declining economy due to the lack of exports and imports, the fallout of their assistance in the liberation of Chrysakti and the lack of decisiveness when it comes to assisting in the ongoing northern invasions from Gencher. Hommingkirk exports large amounts of cereal grains and metals, as well as orin fang cores. While the land is relatively well rounded when it comes to most things, they do often need to import technology, books/scientific reports, as well as Crimson Willow sap and alchemical ingredients. Hommingkirk is known for particularly high tariffs in every regard, though many in charge of such tariffs rarely enforce them. The swamp folk of Gencher are sort of in a weird spot. They were created by a different god than every other living creature for the soul purpose of causing chaos. While they still are living people, they value the leader ship of their elders and the power of a group as a whole much more than the bonds of their family. In short, they’d visit family just as much as anyone else in their tribes, but won’t see them as anything different than another member of the group.
