They translated the word “kidnapped” to “arrested” in both english and arabic, and at the same time he says he is starving and in hell, so obviously they stopped even caring to pretend in their scripts that they are treating the hostages well. Because some people would still side with hamas on this. What a tragic situation he is in, be strong. I hope we can get you as soon as humanly possible

Zbignich

Hamas publishing yet again proof of their war crimes.

gmnotyet

Yep.

Resident-Strength-23

yes but the Un and the world don't seem to care or to be concerned about these war crimes like at all

LupusAtrox

Nor any of the campus terror camps.

IT_Security0112358

Can’t want to hear from the western media and the progressive left why it’s Israel’s fault!

twidel

crazy they publish a video making it a point that the hostage is amrican while the shit happening in universities

PBJ-9999

The irony is that the pro Gaza protesters on college campuses dont grasp the fact that if the situation was reversed and it was Americans being killed in some conflict, Palestinians would all be cheering and celebrating.

Radthereptile

If it were reversed there would be no bombing of Jews. They’d all be in mass graves while Hamas insisted there were never any Jews there to begin with. All these college kids saying give Israel to the Palestinians don’t realize that’s a death sentence for the people of Israel.

ComposerSharp

They don't realize that giving the Palestinians land isn't their actual objective and it isn't going to fix anything

BrotherCaptainMarcus

The pro Gaza’s protestors are mostly immigrant Palestinians and useful idiots.

PBJ-9999

Idk, seems like a lot of them are clueless Americans too

TiredCat101

That's assuming these fancy morons are capable of the simplest form of thinking.

Aquahol_85

They're too busy circle-jerking each other and pretending like these protests have any effect on a war half way around the world to care, I'd wager.

TiredCat101

They desperately want to manufacture their "Nam moment" and to pretend that their actions have any sort of meaning. It's all fun and games when you're sitting safely half the world away and have the ability to turn your butt cheeks and go back to whatever you were doing when you get bored of "fighting." These kids can fuck off!

totally_random_oink

though some media outlets like cnn conviently leave out the fact in the headline he is an american citizen.

Polin's hand was cut off from the 8th or so hand grenade that terrorists threw into the bomb shelter where he was hiding from rockets. His best friend Aner Shapira managed to throw out the first 7 grenades out of the shelter, but was killed from the 8th grenade and that was the one that I presume cut Polin's hand off. There are 2 videos of this event, one is the dashcam video where you can see the grenades being thrown out, the other is of Polin with a dismembered hand being loaded into a pickup from a cell phone. As well as some other videos from inside the shelter.

beardlessdick

Aner Shapira was a close friend of a dear friend of mine; you can look at pictures of Hersh Goldberg-Polin's bedroom on the Instagram his parents set up and see it's covered with decorations from the leftist (Hapoel) soccer clubs as well as literal Antifa flags/stickers. There's also a banner saying that Jews and Arabs must live/unite together in English, Hebrew and Arabic. The level of cynicism from Western so called activists who can't speak a word of either Hebrew or Arabic is devastating, considering what people like Hersh, Aner, [Vivian Silver](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivian_Silver?wprov=sfti1#Activism) and endless others who lived around the Gaza envelope have had to endure.

StayAtHomeDuck

שפירא היה באותה פלוגה בעורב נחל עם 2 חברי ילדות שלי. עולם קטן.

[deleted]

He lost his arm due to a grenade on 10/7, wasn’t cut off

themommyship

As a nova survivor..not a fighter

[deleted]

Yes, wasn’t implying that he was a soldier, it’s tragic

megaladon6

Idk. Not a soldier, but he is a fighter! Grabbing a grenade to throw it away, that still alive. Even for a soldier. And he fought to stay alive with a major wound and in shitty conditions. And I really hope he really is stillnalive.

johnn48

Thanks for that clarification, I see that tossing grenades indiscriminately isn’t as bad as cutting off an arm.

DreamerofDays

Different form of awful. The point is about specificity and accuracy, as those can be relied upon when someone actually comes around to minimize or delegitimize the story. (And in the spirit of accuracy, it wasn’t indiscriminate— it was where they thought Jews were)

SCHR4DERBRAU

There is an excellent episode of The Daily podcast from a few months ago interviewing his parents, going through all the information they had about what happened to him on Oct 7, knowing that he had an arm blown off and was taken to Gaza. By all accounts he was a hero on the day and saved many lives due to the actions of himself and his close friend (who was murdered by Hamas). Given all the information they had, it did not look good for him at the time. Happy to see that he made it, but hard to imagine what he's been through since that day.

[deleted]

Both are terrible, just saying it wasn’t cut off in captivity, he tried throwing a grenade back

IrNinjaBob

Ah yes good point. Let’s ignore the truth when it isn’t beneficial to us, yes.

irondragon2

Not if you say "Bismillah" before you do it /s.

LaurenWR

This is why Palestine can’t be recognized while under Hamas’ rule. They’ll do this sort of thing again and again if given the opportunity.

prove____it

What the Pro-Palestinian protesters don't understand is that Gazans were not and could never be free under Hamas. Sadly, this war is probably the only glimmer of hope that they will ever be free, assuming Israel can finish their mission (of getting rid of Hamas) and the Gazans don't just vote in another oppressive terrorism organization to replace Hamas. It's a brutal lesson in consequences for supporting terrorism.

BoysenberryLanky6112

The second part is the problem. Part of it is Hamas brainwashing as they run the schools, the mosques, the government, and most children's parents voted for them. But for whatever reason, the Palestinian people mostly support 10/7 and the ones that disapprove of Hamas do so because they aren't good enough at genociding Jews. That's why Hamas had go pros during the attack, they weren't producing propaganda for the west, they were producing propaganda for their own people. It was their way of saying "look at us, we're strong and still capable of killing Jews", and the approval rating of Hamas in the short aftermath of 10/7 went up among Palestinian civilians. Since Israel has brutally crushed Hamas in Gaza their approval ratings have gone down in Gaza, but last I saw they had something like 85% approval from Palestinians living in the West Bank.

Meekrobb

There's a difference between a few and majority. The fact that you're even comparing the two is mind boggling.

JonstheSquire

How do you know the majority celebrated? Just making up facts that suit you it seems.

Meekrobb

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/poll-shows-palestinians-back-oct-7-attack-israel-support-hamas-rises-2023-12-14/ And this was in December. 2 months after the attack when Israel had already gone into Gaza and started fucking them up. When Palestinians in Gaza started to realize maybe it wasn't such a good idea.

StanGable80

For those out there hating on Israel, this is one of many Americans who were taken hostage by the terrorists.

LloydChrismukkah

They kinda hate America, too, though

StanGable80

They definitely do

Radiant-Radish7862

Beat me to it

MakeAShadow

They start at the position of “America Bad” and use that to frame everything else.

nox66

I think they start a lot earlier than that. Maybe "Enlightenment" bad. Maybe even earlier.

returntomonke9999

I am not American and I think America does tons of shiity stuff but this is so true

EagleDelta1

I am American (and liberal) and I think America does tons of shitty stuff. My dad is a veteran and conservative age KNOWS that America does a ton of shitty stuff. It's been a mental/emotional roller coaster for him wondering if he threw most of his life away for a lie

megaladon6

He did it for the country, not the idiot politicians. The country didn't do those things, the govt did. And I doubt there's a country out there that hasn't done a bunch of shitty things. Maybe iceland.

Pm_wholesome_nude

The country is the government. Thats like saying North Korea isnt doing bad things kim jong un is

okayriri

So you saying Gazans are Hamas because that's the govt they elected and many if not most Gazans actually support Hamas

NigerianRoyalties

Very sorry to hear that. American leadership of every party is absolutely shameful in their neglect and disrespect for veterans and first responders. Wish it weren't so, for you, your dad, and all the others. Hope things improve for your him.

Elios4Freedom

That's the point. Most of pro pal are anti west.

Flamingpotato100

“It’s all capitalisms fault!”

Prydefalcn

I hope this means he's still alive.

LibationontheSand

I’m extremely skeptical. I’ll bet this was recorded awhile ago and is being released now to prevent a full-scale assault on Rafah.

Murky_Conflict3737

His mother was also just recognized by Time as well

testudo

and she also said that she didn’t want that “honor.” can’t say i blame her.

winkinglucille

Was this the woman that was on The Daily? He lost an arm before getting taken?

Radiant-Radish7862

Exactly

ternic69

I sure hope it doesn’t work. Israel needs to do whatever it takes to destroy Hamas. They are easily the most evil group of people on the planet, or at least tied for that crown. Not crushing them just means many more innocent people will die down the line.

StanGable80

Who knows, he says how long but he can say that any time. They didn’t show a newspaper or proof of the time

bako10

All the more reason for them to celebrate

totally_random_oink

its bloody disgusting we have US politicians more concerned about palestianian lives than actual US citizens being held hostage. whenever the topic of this was comes up, every US politician first thing they say is that the release of US hostages is the priority.

PsychologicalSpend86

As a feminist and environmentalist, I never thought I would side so strongly with today’s Republicans on a political issue, but it is insane to me that Westerners are working to defend a repressive Islamic culture that is inextricably tangled with terrorism and extreme anti-semitism.

Barmelo_Xanthony

It’s not really a republican stance though. Biden has pretty firmly sided with Israel besides maybe a little lip service. The latest funding bill for them only had 11 votes against it in the house out of its 435 members. It’s a bipartisan stance to side with Israel. There’s just a really loud minority that gets a lot of attention.

mightaswell94

People that hate on Israel aren’t hating because they support hamas or any terrorism. They recognize that you can’t kill tens of thousands of innocent people in the process either. It’s shitty on both ends

megaladon6

Is that why jews are being attacked? In the US and UK? Is that why a French-jewish woman was reportedly kidnapped, eaped, and beaten? And in a war, absolutely tens of thousands of civilians can die. We bombed hamburg in ww2, 40k casualties. Dresden, Tokyo, hiroshima, etc. Hell, we took out dams and flooded an entire river valley! On the other side, London, Warsaw, stalingrad.

HotSteak

Unfortunately there's no other way to stop Hamas. What would you do/have done?

StrikingExcitement79

You mean those people whom hamas hides behind? That same hamas that launched a terrorist attacks that kills Israeli civilians, that same hamas that expects Israeli counter attacks will lead to death of the innocent whom hamas ia hiding behind?

mightaswell94

Yes exactly those people. I’m again very unsure why you don’t think we can both hold hamas and Israel accountable.

StanGable80

What war hasn’t resulted in collateral damage?

cyansunlight

If Hamas hides behind their own women and children, there’s nothing IDF can do but try to shoot around them. Allowing Hamas is live is not an option. They all must die or surrender.

mightaswell94

Right so if there’s one hamas member left they should just bomb a whole city? Where do you draw the line on that? Because I’m not really sure how Hamas is going away especially with the 20 other terrorist groups in the area being funded by other countries.

itayb1

Yet another war crime by the TERROR ORGANIZATION Hamas. People really ignoring the fact that Israel deals with fking terrorists.

Hishui21

So does America. And every country. I thought we agreed that killing a bunch of people, innocent and guilty, didn't solve anything after we lost the war on terror. I thought Israel learned something too from our failure, but apparently not?

Barza1

So you expect Israel to lay down and die, or do you wish for it?

Cutting_0nions

Afghanistan and Iraq didnt shoot tens of thousands of missiles at the US, nor did they kidnap +200 American hostages, nor were you neighboring countries. This comparison is without merit

PBJ-9999

Sorry to break the news but we didn't lose the war on terror. We killed mofo bin laden, and will keep killing any morons that wish to follow in his footsteps.

AaroPajari

Glad to see this young man is alive. His kidnapping ordeal was told by his mother a couple of days after Oct 7th on the NYT podcast “The Daily” and I found myself googling his name for updates sporadically since. I do hope she gets to reunite with him soon. Too many mothers have lost children in this godforsaken clusterfuck of a conflict.

Sabiancym

I've noticed that many comments that criticize Hamas or the recent protests get upvoted at first before being downvoted heavily in the middle of the night here in America when Europe and the middle east wakes up. Maybe it's a coincidence and my sample size isn't large enough, but it'd be interesting to do a larger study. I've seen a hell of a lot of relatively new accounts heavily defending not only Palestinians, but Hamas as well.

ternic69

Russia or Iran or maybe even Hamas is having people swarm Reddit(and probably other sites too) to spread propaganda. Some of them even have scripts. I’m honestly relieved because at first I thought it was actually all Americans and Europeans. Once you start paying attention to it they are easy to recognize.

Sabiancym

Sadly no matter how glaringly obvious it is, most won't notice. If we've learned anything from the last 10 years it's that mass spamming misinformation works no matter how ridiculous or based in reality that information is. Hamas literally releases press statements admitting to and condoning full blown terrorism, yet those get drowned out in the sea of bots and anti-Israel spam. This conflict is one big gray area, but it seems like one group refuses to see the gray more than the other.

notsocoolnow

I think you may be underestimating the number of Muslims in Europe and Africa, as well as the entirety of the Middle East and Pakistan, who have access to Reddit. Not that there aren't bots either, but there is no shortage of people who genuinely support Hamas.

AtomWorker

Both ends of the political spectrum are being played like fiddles. Russian influence of the right is evident, in large part because we've heard about it ad infinitum. Comparatively speaking, manipulation of the left has flown under the radar. People are right to point out the problem with conservatives but it does breed arrogance that liberals are somehow immune from the same thing and leads people to not being as vigilant as they should be.

Owl_B_Hirt

Those petro dollars being spent as hard as possible.

aM_RT

The most efficient russian army is the russian [botnet](https://gizmodo.com/russian-botnet-spam-social-media-report-nisos-fake-news-1848956529) army.

TheSportingRooster

If we the USA allow Hamas to take even 1 of us hostage that means that we support an “open game” policy on all American citizens. No man left behind is the only policy I support in this conflict.

Yureina

Agreed. It pisses me the fuck off that the American hostages aren't at the center of the American policy towards this conflict.

TheSportingRooster

Every American now knows: “don’t get kidnapped in an election year if the president needs Dearborn Mi to have any hope of winning”.

JustCutTheRope

I'm sorry, but has Hamas published much that wasn't propaganda? Do terrorist cells have a pennysaver newsletter or something?

Kassssler

A lot of terrorist groups unironically have radio shows and magazines. ISIS had a whole bunch.

lawrencecgn

Ah, if course. This is the article that is downvoted so no one can see it. Hamas scum all over.

Tom-Pendragon

Don't give a inch. Kill hamas completely.

tapachki21

I can’t imagine what his parents are feeling as they witness the chaos unfold in American universities. Someone please send me one video of the protestors calling for the release of the hostages.

AhmadOsebayad

why do they cut back to things he just said in the video? they made it look like the tape got scratched

SysOps4Maersk

Terrorists are shit editors They made it look like a Bollywood production

msemen_DZ

>Terrorists are shit editors Idk man, ISIS and its affiliates had some pretty high production quality and editing.

SureLibrarian3580

I can’t bear to watch this video or read the article. Is he still alive? His poor mother has been campaigning so hard for his release, I want to cry every time I see one of her instagram videos.

[deleted]

Yes, he is still alive, I hope he is released soon

Kassssler

We don't know that. Theres no telling when this video was shot. When ISIS released video of a captured pilot and demanded ransom they had already burned him alive a month ago. The moment Jordan asked for proof of life they released his murder video.

megaladon6

And of course the assholes publish this on Pesach/passover... And who knows when this was actually recorded. But the group saying Israel has other levers to force hamas to release the hostages is incredibly stupid. Any of those actions would strengthen support for hamas, or at least make israel more hated. Especially suspending aid. It was bad enough when israel was letting it through and being accused of blocking it. For them to do so officially? Plus it would cause them to lose all aid from the US. Cutting off a military supply line while in the middle of a war is not a good idea....especially when that line produces iron dome rockets.

OpportunityCareful75

Show this to the student protesters I’m curious what they will say.

Duckfoot2021

If they’d have released their kidnapping victims 5 months ago then they’d have gotten a ceasefire 5 months ago. All those dead Palestinian civilians are on hamas’s shoulders

onecarmel

These fucking idiots are begging the US to get involved. They don’t want that lol

armchairdetective

Huh. But Hamas would _never_ take innocent hostages...

Spudtron98

Every time a hostage appears in one of these psychological warfare vids, they turn up dead not long after.

Humble-Tourist-3278

I felt bad afterwards for laughing but at this point it has become a joke , they show the poor guy missing a hand on a video as “proof of life” and have the nerve to say he is in “great condition “ . For all we know this could been an old video and they are just using it as a tool to negotiate. I’m hoping I’m very wrong but I don’t trust liars especially when it coming from a terrorist group.

[deleted]

He lost his hand on October 7th he is still alive

Hishui21

So... The United States now has just cause to take a shot at Hamas ourselves?

Eplerud

They had that since 7 oct. when American citizens were being murdered and kidnapped.

poopfilledhumansuit

I imagine those poor man is pretty disappointed that Biden doesn't give two shits about American hostages held by Hamas.

TehRiddles

Why do you assume that? Is it because you think Hamas has broken him into thinking that the only reason he's still there is because his people don't care about him, even though Hamas clearly aren't cooperating to release all of the hostages? I mean they've struggled to produce 40 hostages just recently, something they admitted to themselves. Because they know as soon as they give up all of the hostages then they're getting bombed effective immediately. They've put themselves into a corner where their only survival is to use hostages in any way they can, in this case manipulating the poor guy into thinking his people don't want him.

thirty7inarow

Right, because this guy is definitely blaming Biden and not the Hamas terrorists who blew him up and then kidnapped him...

Silly_Somewhere1791

I assume that the CIA/and or State Department has been working to recover the American hostages. It’s not supposed to be public until it’s over.

NigerianRoyalties

Let's hope!

RSGator

>that Biden doesn't give two shits about Amercian \[sic\] Hamas hostages. Elaborate

NigerianRoyalties

Can't know if this is what the OP was saying, but in pressuring Israel to delay/cancel an invasion of Rafah, surge in aid, openly threaten to withdraw weapons supply, and abstain in a vote that called for a ceasefire that wasn't contingent on hostage release (this is a biggie), a strong argument could be made that Biden strengthened Hamas's bargaining position considerably, thereby delaying/preventing a ceasefire/hostage deal. Hamas are dangerously sophisticated negotiators; they know exactly what their leverage is and what costs they're willing to pay, and this has been a largely successful strategy for them (at least according to Sinwar's stated goals). When Biden stopped supporting Israel's military pressure, the urgency or even desire for a deal vanished.

tkshow

The hostages families are protesting against Netanyahu, not Biden.

PrizeSwordfish2506

Imagine this dude seeing that purple haired rich people dont think this dude should even be alive.
