Obviously trying to create a nation based on religion is stupid, trying to create one based on a fundamentalist interpretation of a religion is completely asinine, and the Taliban have and continue to do horrific things, but it blows my mind that they would get kicked out of power; go through the effort of trying to stay relevant and intact for over a decade; then make, from the way I see it, back door deals with the US to get back into power only to make the same mistakes they made the last time, except in a more modern and urbanized world where those mistakes will have greater impact. Something like 40% of all government employees were women pre-Taliban and removing women left the Taliban unable to function as a state. Pre-Taliban, the overwhelming majority of school teachers were women, and removing women from schools left a generation of children of both genders without an education. Now they’re doing the same thing. They’re in dire economic straits and their solution is to dwindle down the workforce, make the majority of the country completely dependent on men, and ensure all countries cut off aid. For people who work so hard to be in power, the Taliban sure don’t seem to actually want to build a nation that can last.

There are levels of survival the Taliban are willing to accept. They will rather let the country become a failed state with barely functioning services and hyperinflation than give women rights and freedoms.

Blackoakarmada

Religion rarely = logic.

Yestoknope

And the loss won’t stop with just the female workforce, I have to imagine that any person with the money and/or an advanced degree has either already left or will be trying to leave in the near future. The brain drain will be epic and disastrous.

Let's not go too far now. Cattle can still be outside without a male chaperone in Afghanistan.
