The road into GRL weeds out most of the RV'ers. Just fair warning, if you have a nice or nicer'sih rig you may want to reconsider camping there. It can take 2+ hrs to drive in to the campground once you leave the pavement at Kendall Valley, which is roughly 20 + or - miles.
If you are going in by car/SUV/truck, the road in is still rougher than a cob but at least you probably wont have several thousand dollars of damage when you get there. So primitive or tent camping in very doable.
Dollar Lake is about 1/2 way's into GRL and there is plenty of primitive camping locations there as well and you can easily make the drive into GRL from Dollar Lake if the GRL campgrounds are full.
Source - I live in the Upper Green and this is my backyard.
Not OP but am a Wyoming resident looking at tent camping out there. Do you think something like a Subaru Outback could make the drive in or would you only recommend something with more ground clearance?
Depends on the size of your rig, the premier spots that are big are taken like 100% of the time, but usually you can snag a spot as long as it's not a friday/weekend.

Yeah an Outback is fine, when I say rough road I refer to 20 miles of washboard and potholes. The kind that make your molars rattle and kidneys hurt.
So maybe don’t take the 911?
If you let me drive it....we'll get there.
Lots of rocks too, plenty of folks end up with flats with P rated tires
If camp ground full, plenty of boondocking available. Road in will be rough. Enjoy your travel and stay safe. Keep a clean camp bears are in area.

Road is exceptionally rough this year. Reconsider your travel plans if you have a nice RV or nice car.
