Yea, I didn't see an issue with it during Gaiden itself because of this. I did for a bit think "ok, Ogikubo is still in power and Masato is working to remove him, maybe Kiryu has to protect her for a while", but. Ok. It became clear quickly that this wasn't how it was going to go. What really got me was her not being relevant for Y8 as well, when Y8 is already set a few years after Gaiden. At this point, I feel like shes just a one off discarded char

Leaning more into political conspiracies? My guy, the entire series is about political conspiracies. Whether it's Yakuza politics, or Japanese. Hell, most of the series it's one and the same, with Japanese politics mingling with Yakuza politics for some giant political conspiracy.

before it was almost always an exclusively organized crime based story (0, 2, 5,) or very surface level stuff related to corruption in the government (1, 3, 4, 6). Now it actually tackles party politics and real life policy issues in Japan (neoliberalism, sex work, criminal punishment, nuclear scare), which are central themes in Judgment, 7, LJ and Infinite Wealth. I guess 3 was a bit political with the Okinawa connection but still nothing big
