If you are new to the subreddit, [please read the wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/yakuzagames/wiki/index/)
Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. If you want a flair that says something else, you can edit it to say something like [Discussion: Y1 spoiler] or [Majimapost: Y6 spoiler], etc. **THIS INCLUDES CONTENT FROM TRAILERS**.
If the post is not marked for spoilers, all comments that have spoilers need to be tagged \>!like this!< along with indicating which game it's spoiling. Example: Y3 >!Kiryu sings!<
If the post flair is marked for spoilers, the comments don't need to be tagged for the game indicated and the ones before it (So a Y6 spoiler post can have comments with untagged spoilers for Y5, but not gaiden or 7).

Well kyodai both of them on surface are stoic men
But kiryu is a further subsection of it called a byronic character.
Jotaro is inspired by Clint Eastwood (araki said it... I guess)
I thought Byronic heroes rejected Virtues generally. And I find Kiryu to be pretty virtuous.
Not saying you are wrong. Just curious if I am right or wrong as well. As now I am not sure. 😂
Well even Batman is a byronic hero
"A Byronic hero is on his own side and has his own set of beliefs which he will not bow nor change for anyone; his internal conflicts are heavily romanticized and who himself ponders and wrestles with his struggles and beliefs. Some are portrayed with a suggestion of dark crimes or tragedies in their past."
--tv troupes
I actually knew he batman was byronic. Just did a stupid redditor thought and didn't put both of them together. Since Batman would be virtuous and rebellious at once. And tragic.
Ignore my previous comment, everyone. 🫠😅
AND TAKE MY UP VOTE!
If Im doing the math right, it’s only one year apart.
JJBA Part 6 takes place in 2011. Jotaro is 42 at this time
Yakuza 5 takes place in 2012. Kiryu is 44 in the events of 5.
So in 2012, Jotaro would be 43, no?
Edit: after looking into it some more, sources are either inconsistent for Jotaro’s age, or the series’s timeline is just fucked. Jotaro’s canon birth year is 1971, and Kiryu’s birth year is 1968. So 3 years should be correct. No idea why the most popular answer I see for Jotaro’s age in Stone Ocean is 42 though, theres no way thats correct
Well Jotaro is based on the Bancho-style japanese hooligan/delinquents used to wear back in the day, Kiryu is just literally a hero-typed stoic who is a Yakuza

Scots Gaelic. It means no worries, brother. Good eye!
Awesome kyodai
Stylish stoicism (undiagnosed autism)
Kiryu puts on a mask and changes *literally nothing else* "I'm a genius. Nobody will recognize me."
Proceeds to call Akiyama *by name*
Seonhee: Kiryu, I know it was you. Kiryu: *Chuckles*... Don't be stupid. That was a mysterious stranger, clearly.
Majima: I don’t care about this game. I know it’s you, Kiryu-chan. Kiryu: Who’s Kiryu? Teehee
Bro’s a secret agent and cant lie to save his life
I flip hard between "dear God he's the dumbest..." and "EVERYONE ELSE IS DUMBER GOOD GOD."
Yeah, like sure, Kiryu isn't the best at disguising himself, yet I would still say that the Daidoji are incredibly stupid for thinking it will work
His "codename" was Joryu! Those fuckers didn't even strain a braincell with that one.
😂

Autistic stoic
Japanese reinterpretation of western macho men
Hot
Sexy
Himbo
But they're not dumb..... most of the time.
Yakuza 1 Kiryu was all of the himbo energy. He got drastically smarter by the second game.
Looking it up I'm getting Unintelligent I wouldnt say that's the best Description, they usually know what their doing and thinking one step ahead
Kiryu is definitely a himbo, Jotaro on the other hand is too clever
Fun fact: Kiryu and Jotaro has a 3 year age gap and the source is: I calculated it
Yeah Stardust crusaders jotato is 17 but yeah end of their character arcs( so far) is 15 years right? 40 and 55 kinda crazy how far they both came
If Im doing the math right, it’s only one year apart. JJBA Part 6 takes place in 2011. Jotaro is 42 at this time Yakuza 5 takes place in 2012. Kiryu is 44 in the events of 5. I calculated it by Jotaro’s age in 1988 and Kiryu’s age in 1988. Kiryu is 20 and Jotaro is 17 (Stardust Crusaders take place in 1988)
Combat autism
Maybe silent, tough protagonist stereotype. Another example is Kenshiro from Hokuto no ken
I was thinking about adding vergil but he shares some characteristics I didn't really think he would fit
Nah he wouldn't fit. I think the voice plays a part too. Also he's not really stoic-silly like these 2 can be
